I picked this book up a few weeks ago expecting another good Christian inspirational book, but describing this book that way would not do it justice. This book is fantastic. It presents in plain language the accounts of numerous biblical powerhouses in a humorous way and with facinating clarity. The author also tied these stories very clearly to my life and provided great guidance as I imagine it would for anyone. I highly recommend this book for anyone!

For those desiring a fresh, narrative-intimate walkthrough of Bible story heroes and their human failures, look no further than Pastor Ellerbrock's encouraging book here. Through his idiosyncratic wit and intellectual clarity, Ellerbrock does not fail to entertain and engage while elucidating his audience about the truthful lives of the often too-revered patriarchs and apostles. Chiefly, his solid doctrinal emphasis on God's deep and unrelenting GRACE despite our constant failures shines brightest among everything he has accomplished in his book. An easy, quick read complete with devotionals, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is depressed or needing STRONG reassurance of God's love and purpose in his/her life. It has truly blessed mine.

This is a great book and has a lot of bible history in it. Well researched and easier to read. Author Keith Ellerbrock used great wisdom in putting this book together. My favorite quote was God does not call the qualified but he qualifies the ones he calls.

Broken Tools is a thoughtful resource that can help people who wrestle with the feeling of being washed up - because it reveals the true nature of God in Christ. God is not angry with His own people. Each person highlighted in this book came to find their worth and purpose in their relationship to God by His merciful faithfulness to them in Christ. Finding worth and feeling useful comes through being found by God. When He finally gets our attention, shows us our ingrained core aversion to surrendering to His will, we are led to a repentant trust that views those things which breaks us down as the very tools that God may be allowing - or even directing - to begin a new focus in our life. A person who has been restored understands the absolute futility of life apart from God's constant compassionate presence and purpose revealed through His Son. Christians are restored to honor the Triune God who does not snuff out a "Smoldering Wick". Reading this book and reflecting on God's nature can help those among us who are "Bruised Reeds" by pointing to the Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier - who works all things for the good of those who love Him. Broken Tools is for individuals and small groups who want to consider how God can rebuild and restore each of us to His glory.

This book inspired me. In a conversational voice, Pastor Ellerbrock reminded me that in spite of my past, my present is in God's hands, and my future holds great promise.

Pastor Ellerbrock unwraps the stories behind some of the great men of The Bible. He writes honestly about their trials and of God's help in their times of trouble. God will always pull us through to acheive His will.

This book reminded me that I am in desperate need of God's grace and that my hope is in Christ. In His hands I am able to do all things. God has a plan for all of us and His plan holds great rewards.

Pastor Ellerbrock reminds us that we can be used of God despite our sins and our failings. No one is without hope.

I got this book a month or so back and loved it. Pastor Ellerbrock has a wonderful way of weaving the stories and making them relevant to us today.

I especially enjoyed the bible studies at the end. Very thought provoking and probing - requiring a lot of thought and introspection.

The writing style is easy to read and user-friendly. I would recommend it to anyone who has any measure of pain from a failure or two or three in their lives. He shows how the Lord is here for us now, no matter our sins. It has helped me to come to the Lord's forgiveness with things in my past that stubbornly refused to die.

As a professional therapist and a Christian I found this book to be helpful and healing when looking at my own faults and failures. I have also recommended it to those I work with who are feeling inadequate or suffering from guilt that they are unable to let go of. So many times these two things - guilt and inadequacy - cripple people and keep them from moving on with the plan that God has for their life. Broken Tools makes the point of God's love and forgivness and His amazing ability to bring good even from our sinfulness numerous times, yet each time it is fresh and interesting. Pastor Ellerbrock expresses the profound truth of God's great grace and mercy in an uncomplicated way, and he makes his points with both humor and humility. It was strengthening to my own faith to see that the great Biblical heros of the faith had moments when they faltered and stumbled but God still counted them as faithful. Broken Tools is a book full of hope. I highly recommend it and will continue to use it as a tool in my practice.
