Insightful and Well Organized

I found the book an excellent read, insightful, well organized and sourced, addressing distinct topics in the Democratic platform that individually and collectively demonstrate the troubling shift away from mainstream American values that the party has held for many years. It is confounding to me, why many Americans would be comfortable accepting -- or at the least ignoring -- these evolving and more extreme positions of the party, on topics of personal responsibility, family, religion, justice, and more.

Tracing the Democratic party's change in values by using the party's platform itself as a key point of reference, Gideon Israel masterfully maps out the party's transformation, the values it has discarded along the way and the new face that it represents today. Mandatory reading to understand the Democratic party and if you are still on the fence for 2020 elections.

Great overview and deep insights into the policy shifts of the Democratic Party over the past 20+ years, backed up by direct quotes from the various iterations of the Party Platform as well as anecdotal examples and big picture context. Highly recommended to anyone wondering how the Democratic Party has changed and why the Party of today feels so different than it did back in '92 for example.

I very much enjoyed the book. It was written in a well organized manner. You didn't need to go back and forth to follow. The book was written in a clear concise manner and you were able to follow the evolution of the Democratic National Platform over the last few decades. A must read.
