Erika introduces us to the ultimate military couple Lincoln & Lynsie. He is a pilot that is climbing up the ranks and is going to be an Army lifer. She is the daughter of an Army Commander soon to be General. Also meet Dax, who is Lincoln's life-long best friend/brother. He loves being a pilot but not necessarily the Army life. He is truly the ultimate best friend even to Lynsie. They seem to be in the dynamic duo with the trusty side-kick....only the side-kick harbors feelings of his own.
When Lincoln loses a good friend due to a crash he concludes that life is too short to put things off. Things in their relationship they have been putting off suddenly come to the fore-front. Their future is moving along beautifully until tragedy strikes in their own home.
Come read how Erika writes how these amazing characters pick up the pieces when one of their own family isn't there any more. Watch how fate shows us that what we thought was not necessarily so. And how out of tragedy a wonderful and beautiful relationship between two soul mates is born.
Erika has out done herself with Broken Wings. This is such an amazing book. I usually do not read military themed books but am so glad that after reading Jenn' Foor's Love's Suicide (another military book) I was steered in the direction of this book. I have read every book Erika has written and with each one her writing keeps maturing.
Congrats Erika on such a great book!!
Broken Wings will take you to the depths of the sky and twist with your emotions. It kind of reminded me of the Pearl Harbor movie in a way. There is a plane called the Widow Maker which is from Pearl Harbor and also the story has two best friends that grew up together and went into the army to be pilots, Lincoln Shane Fox and Dax Lance Adams. Lincoln is married to Lynsie whom is the General's daughter.
"When you feel like you're falling, don't forget to spread your wings."
The story takes place in Alabama. Being a pilot and just losing a good friend from a plane crash, Lincoln decides that he doesn't need to wait any longer and live each day the fullest because you never know what could happen in his career. Him and Lynsie have such passion and love for one another and decides to take the next step in their life to try to have a baby.
Three months later is the 4th of the July Air Show and tragedy strikes and Lynsie is left with a broken soul. Her best friend Dax is there to help out and they try to heal together. Over time, feelings start to reveal and unexpected surprises come into play.
"There's nothing more beautiful thn a blue sky."
Despite her grief, can she mend the pieces back together and learn to fly again? Take a chance on this story, you will not regret it!
Can I start off by saying that this book might be in my top favorite books of all time?! I could not put it down!
This is a heartbreakingly beautiful story about three amazing people. Lynsie Fox, her husband Lincon and his best friend Dax Adams. Lincon and Dax have been best friends since they were children. They both had a dream of becoming pilots. Lincon joined the military and not too long after, Dax joined him as well.
Lincon met the General's daughter, Lynsie, and was instantly in love. They married soon after. Lynsie, Lincon and Dax were like the three amigos. They were always together. Not wanted Dax to be the third wheel, Lynsie started fixing him up with every girl she can think of, but for some reason he never wanted any of them.
"Sometimes it's when you aren't looking that you find what you've been needing all along without ever knowing it was what you wanted...
Sometimes there are things you want, but know you'll never have...because they aren't yours to have." ~Dax
Lynsie decides to leave it alone and move on. Lincon and Lynsie are so great together and their love is so strong. They have what you would call a "picture perfect" relationship. But the bad thing is, is that you never know how long a good thing will last.
During a Forth of July celebration, a flight stunt goes wrong and the lives of Dax and Lynsie are changed forever. How do you move on from such tragedy? How can you truly breathe again?
Dax knows that he has to do everything in his power to be there for Lynsie no matter what. Funny thing is that he needs her just as much.
"I've already made an unspoken vow to myself and Lincon that I'll be whatever Lynsie needs. If it's in my capabilities, I'll make it happen."~Dax
The heartbreak that these characters go though was so emotionally heartbreaking that I had to stop reading at certain points to collect myself. I was a wreck!!
Dax. Oh, that man. He's amazing!! Not only is he dealing with his own grief, but he also has to push his feelings aside. Feelings that he's kept hidden for so long.
"How can something that comes so naturally feel so wrong?"~Dax
Lynsie feels so scared all the time. She can't move forward. The only thing that she has, the only thing that helps the pain is Dax.
"You're my life raft, Dax"
As they live day by day, things slowly start changing. Suddenly, it's not all about comfort anymore. Comfort has moved into something more. Something they never saw coming and they have a hard time stopping it.
"But now you know that I will always be yours...always have been."~Dax
"You don't hold me back, Lynsie. You move me forward."
Can two broken people mend their broken hearts together? Is it wrong? Is it right? Can love prevail?
"Thank you for loving me."
"I never had a choice."

Erika, you are truly amazing with words. I was hooked from the first page. Thank you for sharing this part of military life with us.
I recommend this book to every single person!! You will laugh, smile, mourn, cry, break, then ugly cry again, swoon and then cry some more. If I could give 100 starts for this book, I would!! Wonderful!!
