"Ms. Mary did a bang up job of creating a world that was horrifying and real. The plot swept me along, keeping me on the edge of my seat and tugging at my heartstrings. I think she is definitely an up and coming author to keep an eye on."
-Mama Knows Books
"Kate L. Mary has successfully added some flare to a genre that we have seen a lot of in recent years. It is difficult to be original in the writing business, especially in a popular genre, but Mary has hit the mark with Broken World."
"Each character has their own troubles and while it's all told from Vivian's POV you see a lot of what everyone else is going through. The story is interesting and it makes you feel like you're right there with them trying to survive the end to the world."
-Book Junky Girls
"I read Broken World in one sitting and honestly, was shocked when I reached the end as I hadn't realized I had been reading it so long."
-Blood, Sweat and Books
"Right from the start you are thrown into a world that would come straight out of a tv or a movie...If you are a Zombieafficiando and love doomsday films, like myself, you will enjoy this book."
-Mama's Dirty Little Reads
"So, if you like a good zombie novel with complex characters, definitely pick this one up. You won't want to put it down!"

From the Author
I wrote Broken World
during the summer and fall of 2012. The Walking Dead
was into its third season, and my husband was (as usual) overseas, leaving me free time I needed to fill. Zombies were everywhere, and I spent a good deal of time watching reruns of season one and two of TWD
. I'd always loved zombies, and the sudden popularity of the genre made me want to write a zombie novel. But, I'd spent so much time researching literary agents and editors that I knew the possibility of getting a zombie novel published was very slim. There's no market for zombie novels, at least that's what they said. So, I started Broken World
with the intention of writing a simple (though still terrifying) tale of a killer virus, only to finish chapter one and change my mind completely. Instead, I decided to tell the story I'd always longed to read, which was one that focused on how people change and cope when the world falls down around them. As soon as I finished the first book, I dove into writing books two and three, and by June of 2013 I had the first three books written.
The result was the Broken World
series, a story that takes the reader on a journey, examines how humans change during a crisis (for better and for worse), and explores the fact that no matter the situation, human emotions remain. Whether it's love, greed, jealousy, lust, or desperation, even at the end of civilization we will still be human - in one form or another. I've had zombie authors try to pitch their books to me by saying X number of characters die in Y number of gruesome ways. If that's the tale you're looking for, you're in the wrong place. My story is about a group of people who are trying their best to survive. It just happens to be set in a zombie apocalypse. Yes, there is romance. Yes, there is sex. Both are things I don't believe would disappear even if zombies showed up tomorrow, so neither, in my opinion, are out-of-place in this book.
