The Bronze door is sexy, intense as all hell, with a side of sweet. One of the first M/F/M's where the chick didn't annoy me. Maybe because it's badass Wonder Woman as the lead.
I like that Diana/Natalia is such a badass but with some soft spots. It just shows you that her father and Shawn didn't win and she just wants to be "normal" and loved like everybody else. Natalia/D has been forced into situations again and again by her father until she absolutely cannot take it anymore, it's either life of death. She chooses life and finally runs..
Her only friend growing up was Ashley, the daughter to one her father's colleagues. Only, it seems Ashley is just using Natalia to get closer to Shawn. I kept thinking, this Ashley is a b*tch and not a very good friend. Natalia didn't seem to care though, she just really wanted to have a friend. The life she leads is scary as hell and lonely. Raised to be some sort of child mercenary and trainer.
Until Shawn comes into the picture. He weedles his way into her life with Lies and wooing, only because he wants her father's spot. Sweet at first, her eyes are finally opened to what he truly is, worse than her father "The Auctioneer". He runs a human trafficking ring, and trains girls to be sold. He even forces his own daughter into the life. Which is what makes this book so intense. It's hard to read at times, but it's so compelling I didn't want to stop.
The author takes you from present to past, in the life of Natalia at different ages and what each lesson her father has planned for her on each birthday. I will admit towards the end, I got a little confused. I thought her purpose with Shawn was to train him. He would take over the training of the girls, he would become a Dom amd she would "submit" to him for training. But then she talks about him being her boyfriend and how sweet he was. I realize these are at different times in her life. She was much younger when he was sweet and wormed his way in and the cat was out of the bag and she was a few years older by the time "training" started.
I absolutely hated Shawn. I even asked JL if she gets to kill him in the end lol and her father was despicable, the perfect villains that you love to hate and would give anything to reach into the story and take care of them yourself.
But out of all this darkness is Hope. Diana's "daughter". She may not have been her daughter by blood, but she was hers regardless. She was the daughter of her friend Ashley, but she cared for her like she was her own. And of course Jackson and Calvin, her men. I really like these three together. That end club scene, ho boy!!!
I strongly advise a series recap, as there's a lot of players in this game, but, I think JL did a great job wrapping this series up. I give it 3.75* and I hope she's working on something else, because I'd really love to see what else she can do!!
