I assumed this would be the same issue when I decided to take up running, and purchased the Brooks Ravenna 3's. While I was waiting for them to arrive, I continued to run in my old sneakers (no control or stability added, just your average cheap sneakers) and after about a mile or so my calves would tense up and I've have to stop and stretch them before I could continue. On my first day with the Ravenna's this never happened once! My calves don't even seem tight at the end of my long runs now. Would def. recommend!
As others have said, order up either a half or a full-size. I purchased these in the same size as my normal shoes without thinking, and they are very tight and make my toes hurt. Will be ordering the next size up.
I'd always worn Adidas ClimaCool shoes to work out in because my feet overheat and I found that they worked well, but my dad wanted to make sure that I got a really good pair for my first marathon. I went to the local running store and after analyzing my gait, they suggested these (newbie note: Get them in a size bigger since your feet swell while running. Who knew?!).
I bought a pair there on the spot and started wearing them on my shorter runs to break them in. Yes, they were more comfortable than my old Adidas and yet still kept my feet cool. And no blisters. I have to admit that was one of my main reasons for never trying another type of shoes. I tried another pair once and ouch! But not with these.
So after less than a month, I bought another pair (here on Amazon). Same type. Different color. They were a great marathon shoe and my feet emerged (relatively) unscathed after 26.2.
