Editorial Reviews

From the Author

A Broom with a View is the first book in Rebecca's Kentucky Witches series. The series follows your average witch next door as she tries her best to fit into her small, quiet, Appalachian town. Kudzu Valley might be quaint, but it's definitely not boring. Follow Liza Jane on all her bucolic adventures as she learns to adjust to advances from dreamy Christmas tree farmers, new spells, nosy neighbors with Frito-covered casseroles, satellite internet, and the occasional herd of raccoons.

Book 2,
Broommates, will be out in February 2016.

From the Inside Flap

"I don't know why you'd want to throw your life away and move to that old place out in the middle of nowhere," her mother had complained.

She could see her now, Mabel Merriweather, stalking around her tiny apartment in Beverly. "Gawd Liza Jane, we moved out of there to give you and your sister a better opportunity," she'd all but whined.

Actually, her mother had moved from the small town because she'd met husband #2 at a Rite Aid convention in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and he'd sweet talked her into marrying him and moving to the Boston suburb where he owned a town home. Liza's father had passed away in a freak lawnmower accident when she was a toddler. He hadn't been run over by the lawnmower or anything; it had fallen on his head. Why George McIntosh, owner of Johnson's Home Improvements and Hot Tubs, had thought hanging Cub Cadets from the ceiling was a good idea was beyond her. Freeman Merriweather had literally been in the wrong place at the wrong time. He'd had no idea that the Maytag dryer, priced at a Black Friday special of $199, would be the last thing he'd look at.

Gene Corrado was an okay man and did his best as far as being a stepfather to two mountain children he didn't understand and, in spite of the fact Mabel's parents were sure that with a surname like his he must be mafia connected, he was a gentle soul. Mabel might not be living in the lap of luxury, but she had a nice split-level house in an affluent neighborhood, monthly Botox injections, a timeshare in Las Vegas, and a cappuccino machine she'd paid full price for (not one she'd gotten in a post-Christmas sale like he neighbors). Mabel often spoke of her former classmates back in Kudzu Valley with disdain.

"Liza Jane," she'd all but whispered that afternoon in her kitchen. "What will you DO there? They don't even have a Walmart. How are you going to entertain yourself?"

"The old fashioned way, mother," she'd answered back. "I'll turn all the men into toads and then earn a living getting rid of everyone's warts."

Mabel nodded. "I have a list of people you can start with."

Rebecca Patrick-Howard's real biography isn't nearly as interesting as the one she's made up in her head so she'll leave you with that one:

At the age of 3, her family sold her to a traveling band of gypsies. Forced to become a bareback rider in the circus, she spent her younger years traveling the country, living out of suitcases and selling macrame keychains on the side. At the age of 16 she became a professional yodeler but, after winning the international yodeling competition in Switzerland at 19, decided to retire at the height of her career. Now, she and her husband (an organic rutabaga farmer from Wales) live in an isolated cabin in eastern Kentucky where they play with a local mariachi band every Friday night, are involved with a local murder mystery dinner theater club, and enjoy making origami owls.
