I have sewn and quilted for many years. I go through phases where I quilt and sew up a storm, then stop for months and months. I would consider myself an intermediate sewer. I have always sewn on the old-time mechanical machines and decided that I would get a computerized or electronic machine. I want to get a really good quality machine for Christmas, so I didn't want to spend a lot of money. I figured whatever I buy now would be a backup, if needed.
I liked the features:
* 100 built-in stitches
* Built in sewing fonts for basic monogramming
* 8 buttonhole styles - 1 step auto-size
* Start / stop button (or you an sew with the pedal)
* Speed control
* Drop feed for free-motion quilting
This machine also came with several quilting feet, twin needles, accessories and tools, and a wide table extension for quilting!
If you are familiar with sewing machines, this has a pretty basic setup. It is intuitive in that you only need to briefly glance at the booklet to set it up. It took me about 10" to wind the bobbin (3 included), thread the machine and get ready to sew. I did change some settings from the default (needle down in fabric when machine stops sewing and needle position to the left).Read more ›

I love Brother machines. This is a nice machine as long as you don't plan on sewing layers. I had a small brother and my daughter wanted me to make cloth diapers for her baby. Read morePublished 6 months ago by Pam Holloway
