Bought as a gift for a crafter and she likes it very much, good for paper craft, quilting, card-making and lettering. I think it could also be of use to Origami crafters, signwriters and for etching. The cutting is very precise and consistent as long as you buy quality supplies. Brother options and supplies tend to be expensive, but this machine has a greater cutting pressure than the others, and is quiet. I know Brother printers, and they are reliable and long-lasting.
The template load process is a little fussy and somewhat limiting, but after you learn it, it is very versatile. I was also very impressed by the way I could make my own unique templates with computer drawing tools and load them into the machine. Clearly, this machine works much better if you have a laptop or desktop computer that you can connect with a USB cord.
The only other issue is the expensive adhesive mounting boards, which can have a short life if you do not take care of them. Be very careful when you set the initial cutting depth - accidentally made the first cut just a tad too deep.

The scanner is horrible. Won’t cut out drawings or stencils without a major headache.

Can’t handle cutting out basic stencils, it is either too sensitive or not sensitive enough. The cuts it does make are not as good as cricut. The mats are atrociously expensive and I have only used it like 6 times and it is all screwed up. The instructions for what pressure and level for cutting in the quick start guide are horrible. This thing is a waste of time.

C’était mon cadeau de Noêl. La machine a perdu des rouleaux d’entraînement . Obligée d’acheter trois tapis de découpe. Les guides d’entraînement ne fonctionnent plus. La lame auto ne fonctionne pas. Elle perce le tapis, ce qui réduit sa durée de vie. C’était un moyen de me détendre. C,est devenu un stress! On dit que le service est de 3 mois, pourtant l’office de la Protection du consommateur garantit un an contre les défectuosités! J’ai hâte de voir quel service brother va m’offrir!
