I was amazed at the features. With very little effort I was able to set it up as a network printer/scanner/FAX machine on my Windows 7 x64 system, and a bit more work I had it setup with the same features on my Linux workstation.
Very nice small office addition.
After having this printer for about a year, I'm still extremely satisfied with it. Two other purchases have been made based on my recommendations to friends and family, and it hasn't let them down either. My mother-in-law has purchased a second set of ink cartridges, but I haven't. And that's the reason I'm updating this review.
Today I tried to use the photocopy feature, and the printed page was blank. I feared that the black ink cartridge had died, but I ran the "Ink Cleaning" step from the menu, and the next photocopy was perfectly crisp and clear. From my experience with my old HP and Lexmark printers, I don't think the results would have been the same.
I'm sticking with the Brother line of printers for a long time.
Scan quality is good, but high resolution scan is slow via USB. Any quality issue here is due to dirt on the sensor. Just keep it clean.
Print quality is good. If not, do the quality print test and you usually find that a nozzle or two is blocked which can be fixed with a cleaning-cycle -- up to a point. I find that they do not clean well after a couple of years.
FAX quality is good. It has many options which can get confusing.
Even after contacting Brother support & getting it running after only a few months, it bit the dust again &
now won't print black ink. (All the other colors print fine, but they don't get used anywhere near as often).
Have run the cleaining cycle numerous times, new ink cartridges (& they get emptied out quickly while trying to
clear out the problem) to no avail.
Will NEVER buy another Brother Inkjet printer !!
Made in China by the way !!
I like the fact of 4 color cartridges, and have just replaced the black cartridge for the first time. I understood when I bought this that it shipped with "Starter" cartridges which don't hold as much ink as the new ones.
My only negative is that when I have a paper jam, and clear it, for some reason the unit doesn't recognize it, and I have to go into the print software to release items in the print log and start over again. Since I don't get many paper jams, that hasn't been a serious problem

To my recall, it lasted about 6 years.
But when it died, there was no resuscitation for it.
