You claim that the "2 Years" calculation is based on 300 pages per month for a total of 7,200 pages but after installing the cartridges the display reads 5,400 pages remaining not 7,200.
In addition each ink wrapper reads "after opening use within 6 months". You claim the ink will be unstable after 6 months , then you claim it is good for 2 years.
I URGE Brother to include this piece of info, with clear instructions on how to access the setting through the scanner's touchscreen, in their scanner troubleshooting section. That would have saved me a LOT of time and frustration!
It's incredibly loud. I thought the other reviewers were nuts, but this is loud and gives off a high pitch whine when it's printing high quality color.
So far it seems to be using a ton of ink for me. The colors were too light to begin with, and I had to tinker with the advanced settings. The color is still off, (too dark now) but better than it was. Printing full color sheets are extremely slow. Way slower than my Canon that's nearly 10yrs old. Quality is about the same. I was expecting some sort of improvement in this area, but nope.
I'm not sure if I'm going to keep this as I use my machine to print product labels and if the colors continue to be off, I might send it back and continue fighting with my old machine that actually prints the colors reliably, even if the print heads in that one keep getting clogged (requiring me each time I change inks to run cleanining on it for 1-2hrs at a time.) So you can see why I wanted to upgrade... but if the new printer can't get the colors right I can't see keeping it.
Update: A few days out, another few cons I discovered was that the black is not liquid, it is like laser powder toner. So when printing on glossy, it will smudge incredibly easily but will dry eventually.
I'm still not 100% happy with the print quality. It's a bit blurry/pixel-y. I went from using USB to wireless and had to reinstall the software all over again to make it work, there is no quick fix when switching how it's plugged in.
At this point, it's a huge hassle to send it back, so I'm keeping it now that I have learned its quirks. But because of this I'm still keeping my old printer hooked up as well which is incredibly inconvenient.
After owning this printer for a month and using it on a daily basis, I can in fact say I regret buying it 100%. I use the rear manual feed tray quite often for glossy labels and it's incredibly difficult to load and often times loads it wrong.
Anytime I use glossy paper, everything blurs and all of the ink smudges way too easily (it even smudges hours after waiting for it to dry.) It sort of reacts like powdered toner, not liquid ink.
Sadly I got busy and missed my return window by a few days, so I cannot send it back, I am stuck with it and will only be using it for basic paper print jobs (those of which are often blurry and the colors are weird.)

I have been using Canon Printers for years based on their excellent photo printing, and name recognition, but got tired of them constantly jamming/breaking down and the overpriced ink. I really don’t print many photos anyways, so I decided not to consider that during this purchase.
The Brother printer has a responsive touch screen and easy to navigate menu. My old printers would often take a few minutes to start printing once woken up from being idle, but this one wakes up within seconds and starts printing right away. It’s also quiet and doesn’t shake the table it’s sitting on while going about it’s business.
The downloadable software for Mac computers and the iPhone app are easy to use and quick to download, and I haven’t had any issues finding my printer from either device through Wi-Fi.
I’m hoping that the Inkvestment tanks will be a vast improvement on the old cartridges that used to last a few hundred pages max and cost about the same. The box claims 1800 pages out of the box, however I haven’t had it long enough to require buying replacement ink. So far so good.
The scanner also produces nice quality document and photo scans. As far as faxing goes, I’ve never used that feature on any of my printers as email scans produce far better quality copies. Not sure why it’s even included as a feature these days.
The only drawbacks that I have found (and they are minor), are the fact that it doesn’t produce duplex 2-sided scans from the top document feeder, which also has a fairly small capacity. The other is the fact that the paper tray size is also limited in paper capacity, however neither of those are that big of a deal considering the small footprint and quality feel of the machine. One other thing is that I find that text prints are a little more faint than I’m generally used to, but it is still clear and legible without bleeding around the edges of each letter.
Hope this machine lasts for years unlike my past printers that end up in the garbage far too soon. The cost is a little more up front, but considering the anticipated savings on ink, and time, it should be worth it.
Not so Good: Copying, at least from the upper tray, inverts the original copies which you then have to hand sort back to normal. The copied pages are fine though. I haven't tried the back tray yet.
This printer is noiser than the HP or should i say, noiser when it's printing at it's quickest page rate
All in all I am happy with it and the cost per page is excellent. Setup was easy, i m using this one in wireless mode
However, the scanner specs are dismal, compared to my Canon. Photos look awful, even at the best settings. Specs are 1200x2400 optical, compared to my old Canon at 2400x4800. If your interest is scanning photos, I don't think you'll be happy.
Having said that, I'm always a bit surprised at the poor quality of inkjet printers for small type, this one included (though it does fantastic in the reviews). Even at the highest possible DPI, it absolutely pales compared to my colour laser. For a lot of content this isn't a dealbreaker, but if you have very small text it can be a problem.
