Works with a variety of tapes from the long-lasting laminated TZe Series.
TZe tapes are protected by a thin, clear film to withstand water, grease, fading, abrasion, heat, and cold, making them ideal for indoor and outdoor applications. TZe labels feature a split back design for hassle-free application. Use one of our specialty tapes to create flexible cable and wire identification labels or create labels with acid-free adhesive(2) that are safe for scrapbooking and other photo-sensitive materials. There’s even non-laminated fabric iron-on tape for labeling clothing and more.

Top customer reviews
I spoke with Brother's Customer Service and they said I had pushed "Enter" too many times; therefore, it would not allow extra lines and that I had to erase all the characters I had entered. If I did that, and re-entered the info, I'd have the same problem again. "Enter" was pushed only when I wanted to begin a new line underneath. This labeler is good in some ways and sucks in so many other ways! The programers of the software should be retrained!
Here's more ways it will frustrate you: The Brother PT-D600 prints the letters A, M, & N in extra bold when the Style is set as "Bold." This is the second unit to do so, as I returned the first one to Staples. Even at $50.00 on sale, with a software defect like that, it makes my old, user friendly, PT-1830 (with 5 label memories) look better. In fact, I often switch to it to do labels that are only 1 or 2 lines as it is quicker & with no frustration.
Many reviewers complain about the 1"/24mm of blank tape wasted before the label is printed (on any Brother labeler). Unfortunately, due to the design of the Brother label cartridges, which contain three spools of the different layers of the tape, one always gets a blank piece chopped off when starting a label--including chain printing. However, with chain printing each label is cut off just before the beginning and at the end of the label (assuming you've selected: "Small Margin"). There are no : dots separating each label as with the less expensive units such as my PT-1830 model.
Another problem is I have to press both "Print" then "Ok" two times each, to get it to print. On the older 1830 "Print" does it with one press! Since the 600 does more, they had to make it more complicated. Seems no one thought: "How can we make this more user friendly?" That also goes for the small, user un-friendly owner's manual. I hope they print the next edition twice the size and with black ink instead of trendy, gray, watered down ink. As it is, you may need a magnifier to read it!
Customer Service is located in the Dominican Republic and is open Mon-Fri 9 am to 9 pm EST. Tough luck if it's Saturday or Sunday! I started with the DR Customer Service in a 47 minute phone call with 23 minutes waiting for them to pick up. Be sure to give your phone# right away, in case there is a problem with the phone system…they can call you back. They couldn't figure out the problem, so I was told that another office in Tennessee would call back in 2-4 hours. A Customer Service supervisor called back & while I was waiting, she got the PT-D600 to compare with mine. The extra bold A-M-N letters didn't show up in the supervisor's labeler. Perhaps, she had a newer unit, with the software problem fixed. Subsequent phone calls = no change in software--yet.
To get the unit to underline some words, you have to select Underline first; then, type what you want. Ditto with centered and underlined text. Select "Align" & use down arrow to get to "Center."
Also, with the 600, one has to go through a selection of 15 choices of everything from "Font, Size, Width, Style, Line, Align, Frame, Symbol, Length, Cut Option, Tab Length, Bar Code, Time Stamp, Tab, & Save." And, because the screen isn't wide enough to show all of them to the right and in columns, you have to remember where something is and press down ' or, up ' on the screen to get to it. For their next model, I suggested the wider/longer screen improvement, a larger and more user friendly Instruction Booklet, and longer Space bar to make typing easier.
Being able to import personal (created ) graphics makes it worth the extra cost. Just my humble opinion.
The Brother software works flawlessly (so far) on my 64bit Windows 7 computer. * As primarily a Linux user I (and other Linux users) can only wish for full Linux support for such great devices!!! Brother, are you listening? Please!
