Top Customer Reviews
I waited until the next day and chose the chat option when it was available. I waited 47 minutes to CHAT (not speak) with somebody and when I did, there was a 2 minute wait for each response. The woman sent me through the basics, which I had been through several times already, and asked me to scan and send her some samples. OK, think about this. Print something out on the printer. Scan it with the printer and then send it via a link in Chat. Scanners are typically calibrated with very high contrast when scanning text, so of course the test sheet I sent her looked black. even with that, you can still see that the black is not black and colors are awful. (See attached images:lighter ones are form this printer. Darker ones are from a 10 year old HP, both on plain paper, Brother prints on "best" quality). After nearly 47 minutes waiting and over an hour chatting with somebody, the end result was that there was nothing they could do and that I needed to take the printer to a Brother authorized repair facility to have them take a look at it. No promises. No acknowledgement that that there was any issue.
So now I have to decide what to do. Should I try to return it. (This isn't the Amazon seller's fault, it is Brothers!), should I invest another 2 plus hours and a 10 mile drive to take this brand new printer to a repair place? Or should I just write off the $200 I've spent so far (including the XL ink cartridges)? Given the grief I've had so far, I'm going to try to return it.
At this price point, I'm not expecting it to print 40 pages a minute, generate spectacular, color corrected scans or print studio quality-photos, but I do expect it to work better than the 10 year old equipment it is replacing in a home office environment. It absolutely does not! Now I've wasted a lot of time, money and energy on this Brother MFCJ5620 printer and I am honestly not sure it will be worth it to return. Am I expecting too much? Apparently I am. I cannot recommend this printer or, based on Brother's customer service, any Brother printer.
