I'm currently ordering up any high-rated accessory I can find, because I am so impressed with the ease of use and quality that I suddenly have the urge to embroider everything in my home.
I used polyester machine embroidery thread that I found at my local craft store in addition to the thread packaged with this machine. Everything held up well and produced excellent results. Really, I'm very excited while thinking up all the possibilities (I'll be saving money on custom holiday gifts for the family this year, that's for sure)! It took only minutes to get started, just check YouTube for intro videos if you're feeling a bit intimidated, though I promise it's pretty straight-forward. I used the cheap felt as the base for my first test run, and I'm thinking about picking up more because it worked so well and was actually fun to watch come together. I'm talking about the stuff you get for less than 30 cents per sheet in the craft store. The medium backing that comes in the package with this machine worked perfect.
The printed images on the front of the machine that guide you through winding a bobbin and threading the machine are very easy to understand, especially if you have some experience with machine sewing.
My only complaint, and it's more due to my inexperience than anything wrong with this machine, is that it took some real effort to get the felt and stabilizer to stay in the hoop while I tried to close it. But I eventually got it and it should be much easier next time now that I know it's not delicate, by any means.
Operating this machine is VERY easy. There are step-by-step instructions in the manual, and threading steps are numbered on the machine, so you never forget which way it goes. The only drawback is that you can only embroider a 4"x4" pattern. Most of the 70 built-in patterns can be re-sized up or down, but you still only get a 4" square to work in. Of course, you can always re-position the piece you are embroidering to connect patterns together giving you a larger motif.
There are thousands of free pattern programs on the internet, and all you have to do is download them to your computer, then connect your computer to the machine and copy them directly to the machine.
Don't forget to buy stabilizer and an assortment of embroidery thread! Only 3 sheets of medium weight stabilizer come with the machine, and only white bobbin thread and black thread. You can also use scrap fabric that is at least 5" square as stabilizer under flat fabrics, but you should have either a spray-on fabric adhesive or self-adhesive stabilizer for knits (T-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.), any stretchy fabric, or very fine, sheer fabrics.
I have had my machine for ovrr a year now, and I use it about 3 times a week. It has held up great.
It is very easy to use. The instructions were easy to follow.
I would recommend this machine for beginner and advanced users. It is so nice to use even my 7 year old uses it without any hassle.
