People complain about this but others have tried to go cheaper, only to end up w cheap "knock off", compromised rubbish.
I certainly don't. Buying toner for a printer is sort of like buying socks. Not dress socks, to wear out on fancy occasions, but regular, white, cotton, mid-calf socks. There's really nothing special about buying one brand over another. No one is ever going to wolf-whistle at you, and declare, "Hey! Nice white socks, dude." But ya gotta have socks....
...and you gotta have toner.
So when my printer ran out of toner, I bought this toner cartridge. I didn't put much thought into it. It's a Brother printer, so I should buy Brother toner... I guess. I could've gone with a cheaper, knock-off brand. But I like Brother. They build good, reliable printers. So they must build good, reliable toner cartridges, right?
This one works just fine. I've ran more than a ream of paper through it (yup, you guessed it... Plain. White. Paper. Nothing special...), and it's still printing well. The packaging was sturdy, the instructions on how to install it (really, who needs instructions anymore?!?) were pretty straightforward. The whole man/toner interaction was simple and satisfying.
Nothing fancy. Nothing amazing. It's not bad at all. For toner.
I just replaced it about two weeks ago when it finally ran the old cartridge out.
I started noticing a little black ink on one corner of the paper about a week after I installed it.
Today I noticed it was leaving more ink on that corner.
I opened the printer and INK powder was all over the inside.
The "SEAL" that says not to remove was broken over the hole it covered.
It looks like someone reprocessed this cartridge and put it in a new bag.
Now I have a drum unit that is covered in INK and Ink all over the inside of the printer.
I thought I purchased this directly from Brother (that what it implies on Amazon) but I think it is a fake site.
So now I am out the drum unit, a two week old cartridge and who knows what damage from all the ink I wipped up from inside the printer.
Read the other reviews about how to defeat the "low toner" warning on the Brother printers. I've done that on several cartridges and gotten several thousand more impressions from the cartridge.

This is my second purchase of this toner cartridge. My first certainly didn't last 8,000 copies. Maybe 4500 at the very most, and they're just plain text docs. Nothing that approximates large coverage areas.
This TN-650 "compatible" is in a genuine Brother box, and the item itself is as pictured--with the plastic Brother housing. Works just like the original. There's even a postage-paid return label so that I can mail the depleted cartridge back to Brother.
It's possible that this is a third-party fill of a Brother housing. Nonetheless, it works just fine.
Brother OEM toner cartridge. Brother box, Brother hologram seal, everything. Works...like a toner cartridge.
For those who gripe about average number of pages per cartridge, there isn't a manufacturer out there who is honest about that. What's your alternative? I've used off-brand and refill services before, and there's nothing that compares to the OEM cartridge.
Recommend you run your printer report right after installing, given the other so-so reviews with the same experience.
Folks complaining about the price, ugh they don't understand. Love your Brother!
The toner was in what appears to be a genuine brother box down to the silver genuine label on the box. The toner fill port still had a seal over that said Brother, but was torn most of the way thru at the fill port. I sent the cartridge back to amazon for a refund and bought one at Staples. The Staples cartridge worked fine, no gear problems, and cost a lot more.
