Editorial Reviews

From the Author

One Renegade. One Rebel. One Rogue.
Three Dangerously Sexy Brothers...

The first book in the richly exciting Brothers of Baird's Cove Trilogy, this story will capture your heart and imagination, and have you booking your own visit to Edisto Island, SC. Renegade has a "spicy" heat level, and is not suitable for young readers.

From the Inside Flap

One Renegade. One Rebel. One Rogue.
Three Dangerously Sexy Brothers.

The men of Baird's Cove survived the war, unlike so many of their countrymen. But years later, they're still struggling with its effects. A lost cause, a new government, an artificial and shallow society... How can they be real men if they've been beaten? Can they thrive when they've lost so much?

...And is it disloyal to their past to find hope in this new future?

#1 in the "Brothers of Baird's Cove". Fast paced, intriguing and interesting. Unique take of the Reconstruction phase in The South, prejudices, smuggling, the challenges of a new era and the ;romance of the "Brothers of Baird's Cove". Beck, Mac, and Robert were true Renegades, with Mac and Robert having a special bond, as well as Beck and her sister, Pearl. You will understand more once you read the story.
Smuggling, passion, love and romance makes for an interesting and intriguing story. Well written with engaging characters and a unique storyline.
Well done! Can't wait to read the next installment and learn more if Holt's story. He's the heir and oldest brother of Baird's Cove. An enjoyable read!

This book really transported me to Reconstruction era South Carolina. Lee's deft descriptions of the life and livelihood of the era were so well done, I could almost taste the she crab soup and feel my toes sinking in the pluff mud. I loved how plucky heroine Becks was matched with the smoldering but equally resolute McKee Baird. The fact that he's a smuggler does not diminish his finer qualities! And the subplot of Beck's half sister and the man McKee thinks of as a brother adds to this lush, well-crafted historical romance. Looking forward to reading the next books in this series!

I loved this book. The book attracted my attention because of the cover. I can be a judge the book by the cover kind of girl. With this book I do not regret I can be this way. Once I got into the book, I could not put it down. This book takes place in Charleston, South Carolina. It was very captivating. I loved the character development. This book contained two main characters both different and both lovable I love Rebecca Beckett Middleton, a girl ahead of her time. I love her free spirited attitude. The other character is Max is kind of the bad boy of the story with him being a smuggler among other things. This book was a very fun read and I love the atmosphere the author created. The book left me wanting more. It is a refreshing tale about people trying stay true to themselves. I loved it. I highly recommend it to those who love history and those who love romance novels.

After reading and falling in love with Caroline's first series, The Sweet Cheyenne Quartet, I was excited to dive into the next series with Renegade. It certainly didn’t disappoint!!! :)

Renegade takes place in the Charleston, SC region. I’ve recently moved near that area so it was fun to read about places I've been and learn more about Charleston at this poignant time in its history, from the unique perspectives of the book's characters. That’s one of the things I love most about Caroline's books - they are undoubtedly alluring, romantic stories to read but she also adds in numerous fun and relevant historical facts that I actually retain because now I have memorable characters to associate them with (and there certainly are memorable characters in this book)!

If you liked her other series, are intrigued by the history of the South during Reconstruction or are just looking for a can't-put-it-down book, Renegade has you covered!!

I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!

It has been a while since I read a historical romance, and after reading the blurb for Renegade and getting a glance at that cover, I decided I was going in!

McKee Baird, aka Mac, has always had a problem with authority. His father was an unforgiving taskmaster of a man, and Mac spent a lot of his childhood hiding away with a young slave named Robert who became his closest friend. When the Civil War rolled around (or the War Between the States as it was known then), he knew enlisting would not serve either him or the army well so he took to the seas instead. Now he is the owner of Baird Shipping. and his ship the Polaris is both his home and his freedom. When Eugenia Middleton, a friend of his deceased mother, approached him about a joint moneymaking (read: smuggling) opportunity, he saw it as one more way to thumb his nose at authority. When he arrives at Eugenia's home, Beckett, late one evening, he is stunned to find a young woman falling out of a tree directly into his arms.

Rebecca Beckett Middleton, aka Becks, is a woman ahead of her time. She is a free spirit with a strong will, and she loves her home above all else. Beckett is a safe haven for former slaves, and those people have become her family as much as her half-sister Pearl who was born to Becks' daddy and a slave woman. When Pearl's mother died, Eugenia took pity on the baby and raised her right alongside Becks. Now, Becks is at the river edge covered in mud as she catches the next day's meal when she spots a small boat coming up river. Deciding to hide in the nearest tree, she is gawking at the extremely handsome man with the appearance of a pirate when she loses her balance and falls. Fortunately he is there to catch her, not just this time but so many times in the future.
