About the Author

Tom Sileo is co-author of 8 Seconds of Courage: A Soldier's Story from Immigrant to the Medal of Honor and Fire in My Eyes: An American Warrior's Journey from Being Blinded on the Battlefield to Gold Medal Victory. He lives in Florida.

Tom Manion is the father of First Lieutenant Travis Manion. He started his career in the Marine Corps, retiring after thirty years at the rank of colonel. He is chairman emeritus at the Travis Manion Foundation and lives in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

The story of Travis Manion and Brendan Looney is a story about friendship, leadership, valor, and unwavering love of their families, friends and their country. This is a must read for anyone who wants to understand what motivates people to become leaders in their community, whatever that community may be. Travis and Brendan were leaders in school, in sports, in military training, in helping their friends succeed, in war time, and even in making sure that the people of Iraq and Afghanistan understood that America is a great place full of wonderful people. Travis and Brendan both gave their lives for their country, but they lived their lives trying to make the lives of the people around them better, so reading this book will definitely make your life better by understanding more about Travis and Brendan. I read this book in 2 days because the story is so strong that I couldn't stop reading. This is an awesome book. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.

I just received this book yesterday and I could hardly put it down for a few hours of sleep last night. As soon as possible, I finished it today. What an amazing story of courage, bravery, sacrifice and love of country. It was not only well-written, but inspiring. I loved the fact that it had so many accounts from different service members and their families. While this story is about a Marine and a Navy Seal, it is also about all who selflessly serve for freedom and love of country. My deepest thanks to the Manion and Looney families for their sacrifices and for sharing their story.

Outstanding story of two great men who served their country well and the wonderful family support they had

This is one of the finest books I have read about service to our country. It portrays the warmth, friendship, dedication, perseverance, commitment, and spirit so much lacking in America today. As a Marine Corps officer I salute Travis and Brendan for their service and sacrifice. To their parents I congratulate them for raising such wonderful men.

This book is very well written and with great love and warmth spins the picture of the service of a Marine lieutenant and a Navy lieutenant Seal. Through the pettiness and politics of the past dozen years or so these men show the true commitment of people who love their country and serve it to the highest degree.

The book covers the military lives of two men from beginning in the hall of Annapolis to their final hours and the respect and honor deservingly shown to them. I highly recommend reading this book for everyone who loves our country and wants to learn about the sacrifices of the men who serve and the families they leave behind. Someone commented about language used in the book. I say, it is part of the hard life and sacrifice of us who have served as we sometimes communicate frustration or anger. To mask it would be an insult to the reality of serving our country in the military. As for the other guy who was looking for a story of Gay love - he looked in the wrong place and obviously is sick or stupid. And more importantly he is an insult to those who served.

Semper Fi! Travis and Brendan from an old Marine Mustang. And God Bless those you leave behind. I would be proud to shoot Patrons with them any time.

It produced the best kind of tears

Terrific story..!!...Not necessarily a combat action book, but more about the human dynamics of serving one's country. As a 26-year veteran (of two wars), it ripped at my heart and my emotions like nothing I've read lately. Wonderful insight into the lifelong bonds that are formed among the men and women who serve. Also, and more importantly, it allows the reader to feel the angst, the grief, the pain of losing a family member, in some far away place, with no one with them but the brothers and sisters they serve with. Too often we read of a service member's death and the next day, life goes on. Except for the friends and family involved, who deal with the 'homecoming', the funeral and burial, and the endless grief, often relying on accounts of total strangers who were with their family member as they passed away. The father of one of the service members was involved in the writing of the book, which made it even more personal.. Must read.!!

Tears of fear, tears of pride, tears of hope!

I have not cried this much in 24 hours in a long time. This is how long it took me to read this tale of the heroic men, Travis and Brendan, and their families. The story shows not only do the military serve for our country, so do their families. Thank you for your service!

As I have spent these past weeks since my son has returned from a one week experience at Summer Seminar at the Naval Academy wearing a wristband that reads "If Not Me, Then Who...", I have a new appreciation for the call to arms. I now see it in my oldest son as he is applying for acceptance and nomination to the class of 2019. He stood at the graves of Travis Manion and Brendan Looney in Arlington Cemetery and he said it changed him.

So I pray for all those who serve and who have served for those who need defending and protection. I also pray for their families whose service is just as important to the success of our country's military.

Thank you for sharing this story on paper. All Americans should read this so they can better understand and respect the values and motivation of our US Armed Forces!

What makes these young, intelligent and highly educated men make the ultimate sacrifice? This is the question I asked myself so many times after reading this book.

Brothers Forever is a story of Travis Manion and Brendan Looney, who became good friends after meeting at the Naval Academy. Travis Manion joined the US Marines and Brendan Looney, the US Navy and became a SEAL. Although they have chosen different branches of the military, their friendship did not waver. Sadly, Travis sustained fatal wounds while fighting courageously in Iraq and Brendan three years after Travis' death while serving selflessly in Afghanistan. Incredibly, their bond of kinship was so strong that even death cannot separate them - Travis and Brendan are now buried side by side at Arlington National Cemetery.

I am always proud to be an American but even more proud when I read these two young men's story. Travis and Brendan are the kind of men who make our nation proud, free and strong.
