We got this for our 3 year old and he absolutely loved it. Unfortunately - it lasted about 2 months. He has not been overly rough with it - just loves to dig in the sand and dirt. We did have one a few years ago for our older son when he was the same way and it lasted a bit longer but still was so disappointing. To spend that much money on a toy that doesn’t even last 3 months is ridiculous.

Played with this thing till the wheels fell off (in less than 2 months) then the arm lever broke (6 months) and today the scoop broke (almost exactly 1 year). Bought another one because there isn’t really another on the market like it (in size, diecast, and realistic) but we don’t have expectations of lasting a long time, especially if your kid plays as hard with it as mine does. 3 stars just for the joy of it. 2 for the lack of durability.

The design, the detail, the size all amazing. The digger action with the handle is really good and works great. My nearly 6 year old loves it. The problem is that it's just terribly flimsy made. I almost feel like it is made just to look at, and not really be played with much. It clicks and clacks when you move it around, like it's under stress at all times. It's a really big nice looking toy, but the plastic seems to be the weak point, and for the price they are, you really feel like they should be better.

Bought for my sons 2nd birthday and he really enjoys playing with this toy every day. Its been about 3 months of heavy use and the only thing that broke is the plastic railing inserts that were not very sturdy from the start. This is due to the fact that he likes to sit on the back and ride the excavator as he digs and loads his rock trucks. Everything is very realistic and very detailed. The excavator can spin 360 degrees and the tracks also turn as you roll both forward and reverse.

was very skeptical about this purchase at first due to some of the other reviews and the price. Overall very pleased and can honestly say if it was to break today I would order a new one because seeing him play with this day in and day out and the abuse it take is worth it.

Awesome but whoa, this thing is expensive! This was my first foray into the Bruder family if you will and I thought, “Over $60 for a construction vehicle!?!?!?” However, it is worth it. The thing is solid and my kid loves it. He bulldozes that thing with its little rubber track wheels down the hallway and it still works! I say, “honey, I don’t think you are supposed to use it like that!” But he doesn’t care because you know, he’s 4, and the thing keeps working. If you want the Mack daddy of construction vehicles then get Bruder.

Breaks too easily

Considering how expensive this was, it's kind of disappointing. It *is* big. And it *is* realistic, which is cool. But its not really sturdy. The small little plastic side mirrors broke right away. All of the little rubber parts on the treads came off (and quickly became a choking hazard for mu youngest), and I'm constantly having to put the treads back on every time my son plays with it, because they fall right off the cogs whenever he pushes it (they fall off easy, but are somehow impossible to get back on). My 4 year old does love it, but it's a pain in the you-know-what every time he plays with it because I'm constantly having to put it back together.

We got this excavator for my 3-year old a couple of weeks ago. It's the excavator of his dreams; he LOVES it. But alas, our rambunctious neighbor broke off the hydraulic arm that tilts the scoop. I was upset thinking that this new, expensive truck was going to be plastic junk in the landfill after only a few short weeks. To my delight, I discovered Bruder actually sells spare parts and makes it easy to find them on their website! When the replacement arms I wanted appeared out of stock, I emailed Bruder customer service, thinking I was likely sending a message off into the void. A mere couple of hours later, someone emailed me back, asked me for pictures to confirm exactly which piece it was, and is sending us a replacement piece plus another set of hydraulic arms (for the next fateful breaks) for free because we bought it less than 30 days ago.

The trucks are expensive but worth it in my opinion. I love that Bruder dedicates itself to making spare parts available to extend the usable life of their toys and so impressed with their customer service that it moved me to write my first-ever Amazon review. They are definitely earning their 5 stars in my book!

As with all Bruder toys, it's an excellent one. I would have given it 4.5 only because the joints are a bit too tight and my toddler has to put a lot of effort to play with it properly. He usually ends up frustrated and skips moving the boom and settles for just driving it around. Hopefully as he grows in strength, the problem will go away. Excellent in every other sense though. Good detailing, the tracks work great. It's fun to scoop things with it and it's very durable for outdoor play.

I really really wanted to like this toy.
My son is 2.5 and could not use the boom and bucket.
My daughter who’s 4 tried and she couldn’t get the concept.
It actually takes a bit of coordination to scoop and deposit sand so it’s definitely not suited for anyone less than 5 years if you actually want to try to scoop sand as it’s intended?
It looks cool so any boy would love it at first glance I’m sure.
But functionality not so much.
So why did I give 1 out of 5?
Out of the box my son was blown away.
Looks great and feels solid.
It’s 100 percent plastic but feels like strong plastic(if that’s thing).
So we got down to business right away.
We bought it for the sand box.
Not a toy to sit sparkly clean in the living room.
It was meant to move some dirt!
So disappointment number one, as mentioned before, the digging mechanics are too complex for a toddler. It took me a few tries to figure it out.
But I won’t dock a point for it. Just for people that think they’re three year old will know how to actually dig sand with it. It’s pretty tricky to use.
Next, the handle that you stick your hand in to move the boom and bucket is rather thin so it kind of hurts your hand when you try to dig the bucket into the sand and try to scoop it. It takes a bit of effort to dig up material so it’s kind of painful.
My son could not even get any dirt.
Minus 1 star for that.
Next, as some reviewers have mentioned, the tracks don’t work in the sand. They basically seize up as soon as sand gets in there. So you can’t even roll the thing around. If you try to force the track to move and dislodge the sand stuck in the track it will fall off. Pretty bad design if in fact it was meant to be used in a sand box. Minus two stars for that.
Lastly, I may be old school but 80 bucks for a plastic toy that does this poorly in the sand is way to expensive.
My wife gave me a hard time saying right away when she saw it for the first time it’s over priced.
I defended the excavator as much as I could saying how awesome it was but after failing miserably in the sand, I couldn’t support it anymore and returned it.
It would look and work just fine if your kid was lifting their gi joes inside the house, but don’t expect anything from it if you actually want to your kid to play with it in the sand.

My 2 1/2 year old grandson when he opened the box was at first just open mouthed, quiet, just completely in awe. He loves this toy and the first night it displaced his teddy bear in his bed. The second night, well we had to say no because it was of course sand encrusted. Although fairly large it is light enough for our grandson to pick up and carry around. It is made with all the details that a big "Digger" has of a hard durable plastic. If you have a wee lad in your life that is into big machines, excavators, back hoes, front end loaders, dump trucks then this is definitely one you need. Be prepared to sit in or on the edge of your sand box and to help engineer the sand castles of tomorrow with the wee folk in your life.

So far this thing has held up to everything my 2.5 year old can throw at it. It's his favorite toy and gets used daily. Awesome detail and articulation. My boy absolutely loves it and I'd buy another one in a heartbeat if this one broke. As long as your kid isn't throwing it down stairs or trying to ride it like a rodeo bull it should last just fine.

Very good quality toy! Looks like the real thing at a smaller scale. It's mainly made of plastic, but this is high quality stuff.
It's true that there are no glue or screws that are in the way and could harm children. Very well made and designed.
We gave it to our little boy for his birthday and he loves it! Fun in the house, where it does not scratcha anything, and loads of fun at the parc or in any sandy area.

Gave it to my 3 year old grandson and he loves it. He played with it steadily the first day for over 6 hours!
He calls it his "Bigger Digger" as he also has a little Tonka digger. He also decided that it will be an "Inside" toy, not for the sandbox, as he doesn't want to get it dirty.
It looks really tough with high grade, very hard plastic, so hopefully it will last. Beautifully detailed with German engineering.
The only minor downside is that it comes with some small plastic pieces for a handrail, mirror and some track inserts. These items seem to be mostly if you wish to treat this as an accurate model, not a hard playing toy. The track inserts don't stay and the hand rails easily pull off. I suggest not using these pieces at all.
