Brute was quite the compelling thought provoking read! This passionate, intense romance with dark emotional twists had my blood pressure rising from the utter frustration Mason and Jeanie create holding back from each other, to the side that had me contemplating *what would I do in this situation*. Feeling as if I was volleying back and forth with my emotions right along with them. ( which I am still not sure I necessarily liked. ha!)
This emotional masterpiece was one sitting, cover to digital cover read for me.
Once I started reading the quick flowing storyline, with details that are intricately woven throughout, and its supremely titillating set for heartquake lines, Nothing else was getting done till I knew how these two broken souls from different places figured out their business!
What a unique, sexy, witty capture my attention read from Teagan Kade!
Very worthy pick to have in your library- it’s in mine!!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Mason - is not a brute. Yes, he's a shark in the courtroom at the opening of the story, but he's truly not a brute at heart. He's living a self-fulfilling prophecy. And he's damned himself in his mind because of the weight of his family name and something he did (or didn't do) from his past.
Jeanie drove me nuts at times. I thought she pushed Mason a bit too much on the emotional side of things. And it irritated me that she expected Mason to be open and communicative when she wasn't as forthcoming. But this stemmed from her abandonment issues and fear of Mason walking away. I get it, but those moments grated on me because Mason had been honest from the start regarding relationships.
The sexual tension between them was always present, in their interactions and during their heated scenes. But there was also a hint of emotion that slowly crept in as the story progressed. I'm glad it wasn't one of those situations where Mason slept with her and instantly had hearts in his eyes. It took a little bit for the lust to transition into something more emotional, and it was great to see the progression and Mason's slow realization that he wanted so much more. All he needed was for someone to have some faith in him. The "I love you's" didn't come steamrolling in. And for this, I'm incredibly grateful to the author because you see the slow evolution of them wanting to change and be better people for one another.
The letter Jeanie wrote squeezed my heart and I cheered for Mason when he finally took a stand. The ending was beautiful. And I couldn't stop smiling.

Mason is a lawyer who is tired of getting rich, entitled people out of their legal problems that they should probably go to jail for. He feels like it is sucking out his soul so he quits and moves to a small town to open a shop and work on cars. Jeanie is a waitress and loves the small town and lives with her uncle who raised her.
I loved this book. There were so many emotions that at times I had to wipe away tears when Jeanie was dealing with Uncle Jerry and his cancer. Then there were the emotions of hurt when Mason left without any explanation of any kind for Jeanie. I wanted to smack him for leaving.
Jeanie takes Mason's offer of credit to fix her uncle's car the wrong way. This leaves them kind of hating each other right off. Then she finds out that her uncle has cancer and the prognosis is grim. She decides to offer to work in the office for Mason to make up the difference for what she would owe for fixing the car. Feelings start to change and the sexual tension grows. Jeanie is dealing with a lot of emotions with Uncle Jerry's disease and she is working two jobs and taking care of him besides. Mason and Jeanie start a relationship thinking it is just "practice sex" but feelings start to get in the way. Then Mason decides to go back to the city out of guilt from things in his past thinking he can never get away from them. Jeanie realizes that she loves Mason but before she can tell him he is gone. Will Mason realize that he loves Jeanie or will he stay in the city and let his job suck the life and soul out of him again? Will he ever get over the guilt of what happened when he was younger? Will he go back to Jeanie and if he does will she forgive him?
