I've seen some questions and concerns regarding whether this is strong enough, and I'll admit, when you look at the black plastic handle part you wonder whether it will do the job. But I believe there is a metal frame inside that plastic, because it's plenty strong. I have loaded this thing completely full, 1000 chips, with the 14g Monte Carlo Poker Club chips, and carried it around with no problem. Those chips are about as heavy as you would possibly use; more expensive real clay chips are more like 9g each in the same volume. I have infinitely more confidence in this case holding up than I would with an aluminum case (which I also have) carrying 1000 heavy chips without busting a clasp or the handle. And this looks better.
The only logistical issue I've run into with this case is that if you fill it up completely, there's not really a spot to carry decks of cards and a dealer button. That's only an issue if you are transporting it and want to carry everything easily, it's not as much of a problem at home. If you leave out one tray of chips (so carry 900), you can fit two boxes of cards and a button. If you leave out two trays (carrying 800), there is enough space to fit one of those plastic two-deck carrying cases that come with decent cards, along with a button. Or you can fill it up and carry your cards and button separately.
Bottom line, if you are buying (or have) a set of 500 or more chips, this is the way to store them. Buy your chips in bulk without a case, and buy this case.
I am 100% satisfied! I was a bit skeptical prior to ordering this, but it turned out to be a huge upgrade! It is a lot smaller than expected, which is fantastic! The handle is sturdy, and feels more than sufficient to carry 1000 chips weighing 14g each. The case itself is made of thick Acrylic materials, giving the entire case a rock solid sturdy feel.
In my opinion this is the most efficient, safe and practical way to transport my expensive 1000 piece poker set.
My only regret is not ordering this sooner!
I travel extensively and this brick is my travelling companion. I keep a thousand chips in it. If it's flimsy in any way I'm not aware so far. Of course, previously I carried chips in the metal boxes that they came in and that is a losing proposition. Those boxes are doomed from the moment you open them. So my frame of reference for what constitutes a flimsy chip carrier is pretty jaded.
This thing differs from the boxes in another significant way. It makes a statement.
Couple things. Brybelly sells chip trays here at Amazon and elsewhere that match the trays that come with this carrier. Nice option if you host big game nights and want to keep prebuy stacks on hand.
The other thing is, carriers like this can be bought with chips included. Whether or not the carriers are the same I know not but the price at least seems to be better if you purchase carrier and chip combos instead of this empty carrier.
