After getting the tent and setting it up I like what I see. The pole system sets up easy and unlike the Fly Creek is completely free standing. I feel comfortable that with a little practice this tent can be setup very quickly. The tent comes with some lightweight aluminum stakes and plenty of guy lines. More hardware than I plan on using anyway. In my opinion the rain fly will require a minimum two stakes for the vestibule and four guy lines to secure the tent for good ventilation and tautness for rainy conditions. However, if you are stuck setting up on a rocky surface I believe you could use this tent without staking.
Beyond setting up this tent in the backyard I took it out on a weekend car camping trip. We had a solid 8 hours of rain with some periods of downpours during the first day of the trip and the tent performed well. There were no leaks in the rainfly and floor was completely dry. The Bryce 2P ventilates well enough that we were able to spend a good portion of the day in the tent reading and resting. My wife and I had enough room for sleeping comfortably plus a little room for a small amount of gear inside. I like that the tent has a rectangular shape so you can choose to sleep with your heads at
either end of the tent or even sleep head to foot with no issues. The zippers and closures all worked well and I found no construction flaws. I love the gear pouches and other nice touches like a lamp ring on the ceiling and reflective accents on the outside.
So overall I’m very satisfied with this purchase. I’m looking forward to using the Bryce 2P on many bike packing adventures in the future.
I spent last weekend backpacking in the High Uinta Wilderness in Utah at 10,800 feet. The Bryce 2P Tent was the perfect shelter for the trip. Impressed by the build quality, the space inside the tent, and the weight. We experienced 30 degree temps at that elevation overnight and I expected to have a lot of condensation from two guys and a dog sleeping in the tent. But the ventilation of the tent was awesome and we experienced no condensation. It was really nice having a full rectangular floor. It made having one door a lot more comfortable for two people. Overall my experience with the tent was awesome and I highly recommend this tent for anyone going backpacking.
I've owned a lot of tents over the years, and had tents from all the big name brands like, Marmot, Kelty, Sierra Designs, just to name a few. I have to say that Paria has done an awesome job of designing a tent that is not only functional, but saves a lot of weight, and is built really well. I had a Kelty tent very similar to this one a few years ago, it cost me $225 and was almost 6 pounds in total weight. That's a lot for a two man tent. You get a sub 5 pound tent here with the included footprint, that isn't always necessary because of how nice the floor fabric is on this tent.
Things I like the most about this tent are the ease of setup, quality construction, great breathability, and overall function. Paria has thought through some of the little things that others tend to skip out on. For example, the two interior pockets for gear storage are high above the floor, where many tents have storage pockets that lay on the floor. They are also very large in this tent which is great. There is a single ring that is sewn in the apex of the tent, perfect for hanging a lantern or your headlamp. It would have been nice to have a second one added in case you wanted to tie a line of cord for hanging additional items.
I will probably end up replacing the included stakes with some MSR Mini Ground Hog stakes. The included stakes with this tent are not a Y shape, they are V shaped and I did end up bending one of the stakes at the point where the guy out line is meant to catch so it doesn't slip up the stake. They also do not have any cord attached to them like the MSR Ground Hog's. This is not a deal breaker, and should not stop anyone from considering this tent. I am a bit of a snob when it comes to the stakes included with a tent. I replaced the stakes on my Sierra Designs tent as well.
I'd highly recommend this tent for someone that needs a high quality, lightweight tent for a great price. Seriously, $160 for what you get from this is a gold mine! Love mine and look forward to many nights in the backcountry with it!
I give the customer service 7 stars. They replied my email almost immediately and resolved my problem. Best customer service I've ever met.
Field test this tent in a backcountry trip at Denali National Park in July 4th weekend.
Temperature around 40-60 F. It was raining the whole night. Not too much wind.
Things I like about this tent:
1. Quality. Well built with good materials. Durable. Kept me dry and warm in the raining night.
2. Weight. Very reasonable backpacking weight for a 2P tent. Of course, there are lower weight tents out there, but comes with flimsy material or ridiculous price.
3. Price. Same quality and design you can not find a better deal as of 2017 July.
Things I think can be improved:
1. Design. The design is not bad, but I do like to have more room for storage under the rain fly. Also the ceiling is concaving down into the tent (because there is only one bar going through the ceiling), which narrows the space from the sides.
2. Some details could be more polished such as the stakes.
It is a good tent.
