The knife looks nice, feels good in the hand, and is made in the USA.
The sheath is ok, but the belt loop looks like it would be very hard to get a belt into it.
The way the balde curves up makes it hard to sharpen. I used this knife to skin a hog and it went dull not even half way through it. For a skining knife the blade is almost too pointed. I replaced this knife with the buck 103, I will write a review for the 103 after I skin another hog next week.
I kept this knife because I like the way it looks and it may do a good job with a different animal because hogs are pretty hard to skin. I just want my primary skinning knife to hold up well in any situation on any animal and this wasnt that knife.
There were not many reviews on this knife where it was actually used to skin an animal so I hope this helps someone looking for a knife to use for hunting.
The sheath could have been better(bit loose in the plastic liner in the canvas), but for the price its fine. I was planning on making a leather sheath any...
picture shows it with the Buck 135 Paklite Caper I purchased at the same time.
* Look at PakLite Large Black For A Better Reference *
I own several Buck knives, and I love them all, they always come sharp right out of the box. I have the PakLite "regular" in black and I couldn't use the back of the blade effectivley to spark a magnesium rod (the black coat hinders the production of sparks). So I thought I would get the PakLite Large without the black coat as an upgrade to my hiking belt. I love this knife, it is nearly twice as thick as the PakLite and has more traction ridges on top of the blade and around the handle, very ergonomic. It also has an angled tip for better penetration. I had wrapped my old PakLite with paracord for better grip and comfort, but due to the size and ridges of the new knife, I dont feel the need to do so, but I could. It is well balanced and has a nice weight to it, but it is very light for a knife its size. The sheath is of nice quality for the price, only problem is that when you pull the knife from it, the blade tends to cut the strap that holds it in place. I was kinda disapointed that the blade is smaller than that on the PakLite, when this is labled PakLite Large, but it is larger overall. Oh, and this one does spark a magnesium rod with ease.
