the routers weight is a bit more beefy then my old NETGEAR WGR614V9 the range of the wireless was okay for inside my apartment but anywhere outside wouldn't pick up at all, the neighbors would also try to piggy back my connection making my connection frustrating and very slow couldn't use custom firmware on it ether wasn't possible, but from my experience with routers the WGR614V9 is a complete piece of crap after 2 or 3 years dropped my connections nearly ever day slow connection speeds constant resets and re-configuring the settings got extermely old over time with old router i was getting 2.5mbps 2.7mbps max but my connection speed at full is 2.9mbps on firefox 3.9mbps on IE10.
i searched for routers for a long time to find the best future rich budget router that i could find and finally came apone this Buffalo Airstation N300 i wanted a dual band because i game 24/7 was looking at dual band routers for the budget buyer none came close to my perfect price point nearly 99.9% of them looked as though an alien civilization built them, even though the buffalo airstation N300 WZR-300HP looks like a 2 rotor helicopter gearing up for take off looks shouldn't really matter with routers but i perfer a router that's vertical rather then horizontal becase of heat and how a router laying horizontal can trap heat if there is no vents on the top.
the buffalo web GUI is very easy to navigate and find what you need to configure the settings are all in there propper place and i have reset it tiwce configuring the settings i made some errors in the setup.
i had some trouble with the buffalo router stand had it backwards the first time couldn't find the reset button had to redo that i was afraid at frist to connect the stand with the screws supplied thought i was going to break something inside the router dang screws was an inch long Lol
pros:
AOSS secure connect
USB imput
2 antenna's better coverage
Giga ethernet
2.4ghz n/b/g
QoS
VPN ready
DD-WRT pre-installed
cons:
screws are an inch long watch out though i nearly fried my fingers like kentucky fried chicken
i'm not really tech savvy on DD-WRT i did some research on google about it and found out that its far better to use that frimware then any other its more secure set the user name and password for the login to what ever you like and it has more futures then my old router the more a router has the better i like to play around with the settings on routers try to get the most out of it rather then set the passpahse & SSID theres so many things you can do with this router it smokes that WGR614V9 like a joint and flings the roach at a wall.
i didn't like that off white color of my old router ether i have all black enthertanment center flat black flat screen TV PS3 modem and my surround sound bass box sitting on one shelft so an off white router didn't look right among all that black had to change that looks so much better with my buffalo sitting up there, problems with the old router wouldn't load videos very well started to loose speed lag in games and videos constant loading on some websites and buffering in videos.
i haven't owned my buffalo for 24 hours and already writting a review on this product the giga ethernet ports does advertised same can be said about the wireless signal, with the old router i was getting 54mbps when i went to my connection and then status now i'm getting double that 65mbps the wired connection staying seady at 100.0mbps witch is what i expected for wired.
had some problems upgrading the firmware on the buffalo keeps saying failed to find any upgrades? also same goes for the uploading the file from DD-WRT website doesn't work from there ether but its just one of those challenges that's just begging to find an answer to i won't quit till i find an answer or i grow tired haha!

UPDATE
===============
oh boy well this is just great i wanted to upgrade my buffalo to the user friendly 1.93 firmware on the CD after the upgrade and the reboot of the router i now have a RED LED light that comes on and blinks tiwce its been like that for 3 hours trying to figure out what happened and try to find an answer to the problem i have searched everywhere and all i can find is flashing the router with the firmware that came pre-installed using TFTP didn't work keeps saying *time out* the transfer was aborted? if i could get some help on this problem i would be so greatful to you.

UPDATE 2
===============
i recieved my Buffalo WZR-300HP replacement on 11/11/13 all was going well had the stand on the router both screws in until i plugged it up would not come on tried different sockets nothing was helpping and then i noticed there was something wrong when i unplugged the router from the back and replugged it in SPARKS flew out i thought i killed it or fried my second router at this point i was freaking out then i thought about what i said in this review (dang screws was an inch long)
seriously why have screws that are an inch long going into the bottom of this router i'm pretty sure a screw that's half as long can solve the problem of attaching the stand didn't need that much to catch that plastic part where the screws go in, (THANK GOD I'M STILL ALIVE AT LEAST) didn't fry myself like a chicken or burn my apartment block down.
Pros:
* DD-WRT v24SP2-MULTI (07/09/12) std - build 19438
* Better wireless range and signal strength
* Atheros AR7242 rev 1.1 CPU clocked at 400 MHz
* 64 MB of RAM
* Gigabit LAN: 4 Ports
* Gigabit WAN: 1 Port
* Wall mounting hardware included
* WDS (Thanks to DD-WRT)
* AOSS
* DLNA
* Setup Assistant available for simplified router configuration.
Cons:
* Some features are only available with the original Buffalo firmware.
* Move Engine (QoS) button is useless; does not work under DD-WRT.
* DD-WRT maybe overkill for novice users (Buffalo firmware on CD).
* No auto update for DD-WRT (you'll have to check the site periodically).
* DD-WRT QoS is a bit complex for average user.
* Antenna design is questionable (looks flimsy/cheap plastic).
* Needs to be in a well-ventilated area or may overheat (runs a bit hot).
* Guest wireless? I haven't found a way to configure that yet.
Conclusion:
This is probably the best bang for your buck at the present time. Features, stability, range, and price, all work in favor for this router. I highly recommended.
Update:
NAT Loopback option, under Security Tab DOES NOT WORK.
To enable NAT Loopback, save the following as a FIREWALL script in the COMMANDS section of the router config:
iptables -t nat -I POSTROUTING -o br0 -s 192.168.x.0/24 -d 192.168.x.0/24 -j MASQUERADE
Make sure to replace the 'x' in the IP's.
