I just got my CloudStor today and I am loving it so far.

It was fairly simple to setup; basically just plug it in, turn it on, and register for your free account with PogoPlug. Within a few minutes I was already uploading music to my drive and streaming it to my Motorola Xoom via the PogoPlug Android app. There are practically no instructions provided with the device, but the online guide is great.

You can manage the drive's content via a web based tool, or you can use the desktop application to mount the drive and access it like a regular hard drive on the system. I prefer mounting the drive as it allows you to easily copy entire folders of content to the drive in one shot. The web interface uses a Flash based tool for uploading content, which works, but doesn't allow uploading folders; you have to upload files and then recreate the folder structure.

Data transfer is pretty fast. I copied a 76MB album from a Western Digital MyBook external drive to the Buffalo CloudStor in less than 30 seconds. This was on my local network with a router that has a 1000 Mbps switch. For large transfers, this is the way to go. If you have an older router with only a 100 Mbps switch, the transfer takes much longer. Similarly, uploads over the internet are slower. I have not had any issue with streaming speed.

The CloudStor ships with one 2TB Seagate hard drive. I was really glad to see the Seagate drive instead of Maxtor or some cheaper brand. I also think it's awesome that they used one 2TB drive, leaving the second drive bay free for another drive, meaning I can easily upgrade to a 4TB system when I need the space.

I am really excited to have my own home brewed cloud system.

After reading what they wrote I'm really not sure the other two reviewers before me have the same product I do! I've had my CloudStor Pro for a week now and have had nothing but problems with it the entire time. Sorry in advance for being so longwinded.

1. Setup is fairly simple although there is no documentation. Basic setup can be done easily, but some of the more advanced settings might require some research. The Buffalo downloads page has Pogoplug drive software which basically maps the Cloudstor as your P: drive so you can use the server just like any other drive. No problems with this.

2. I used the mapped drive to copy over 500GB of videos to the Cloudstor. That took a long time, but no problem I just let it run overnight.

3. Every video you upload is transcoded into H.264 format which Buffalo uses to improve streaming performance. This is when the real problems set in..... Granted, I have a lot of videos (as I said, over 500GB). But yesterday -- a week after starting -- it was STILL transcoding. And it really slows performance while it's transcoding.

4. For the few videos which did supposedly transcode, I was never able to get a video to stream using Google Chrome browser. Using IE9 I was able to stream a few of them, but the audio stopped after 10 seconds. After several calls to tech support I was told that transferring files over mapped drive is NOT preferred and can cause transcoding issues. They suggested I use the web interface. Now this is just silly. I have a gigabit LAN at home, but I'm going to have to transfer files over the internet (where I get much slower upload speeds)?!?!

5. I also never got a video to play on my Android phone. I always got a message that the video was "not optimized for mobile viewing.

Ridiculously easy. I ordered this Friday 5PM, got it Saturday next day by 10AM (Amazon Prime RULES) along with a 2nd 2TB drive for slot 2.
Plugged in, logged on & created account, activated it by entering in the ID on the bottom of the box (no-brainer, it told me what to do)
Drive was visible, accessible via web.
So I turned it off, opened the faceplate (no tools required), slid the 2nd drive in (snap-click-done) also no tools required.
Turned it back on, opened my cloud webpage, went to media management and formatted my 2nd drive from the cloud interface.
in all of 10 minutes I'm online with both drives visible and shared to all my devices (phone, etc) without any configuration effort.

Also, the video transcode and preview generation is VERY nice.
Not to mention you can just plug in bit torrent URLs to stream directly to the NAS.

All in all.. no complaints, super easy and exactly what I needed.

I've had my Buffalo Cloudstor Pro (BCS) about a month now, and I wanted to wait this long before writing this review so I could have some experiences to share.

For years, I've wanted a NAS drive that I could get to while away from home, and until now none of the available units seemed to work reliably, according to the reviews I read, both here on Amazon and on other review sites.

When I came across this BCS, it looked like I'd finally found one that worked, and with 2TB of NAS storage plus the ability to access the drive over the internet for $225, I thought I'd take the chance.

So far, this drive has been everything I've wanted.

First, I connected it to my router (an Apple Time Capsule - which does NOT work well at all as NAS!!) and went through the very easy connection and setup process, and the drive was immediately visible on all the PCs in my house. The drive is NOT visible on my MacBook Pro, but that's not a deal-killer because of the next item. It would be much better if this drive would automatically show up in the Mac's file system as well. Buffalo, are you reading this?

Next, I went through the very easy setup process to make this drive visible through the Internet via a browser. Overall, I'm VERY pleased with this capability, mainly because it WORKS! It works reliably, and it works for all the 15 people I gave access to, regardless of what kind of computer they were on. While the interface could use a bit of streamlining and improvement in the UI department, it does work, and it works well, and that's the most important thing.

The first person I gave access to uploaded about 600MB of photos and had no problem.
