The Good: A lot of well loved characters show up in this volume - Spike! Andrew! Robin! And a lot of heavy issues mixed with wacky situations. This volume is very close to the show, in that it has some great stuff going on, some weird stuff going on, and some what-drugs-where-the-writers-on kind of stuff thrown in for good measure. We don't get a lot of plot progression, but we do get a deeper look at where the characters are now and what the driving force is that's motivating their choices.

The Bad: Glossed over too-drunk-to-consent rape. An inexcusable choice in any form, but especially offensive coming from a series known for female empowerment.

From Goodreads:
With the Scooby gang on the skids, Buffy finds herself increasingly alone. When faced with some tough decisions grounded in “real world” problems (i.e., not the slaying of pesky demons), Buffy is determined to make her own choices, but that doesn’t mean she won't need a little handholding along the way. Cue Spike, compelled to stand by his best friend in her moment of need. Together they'll tackle the increasing zompire population and a rogue Slayer out for blood. Collects Buffy Season 9 #6–#10; and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer: In Space No One Can Hear You Slay!” from Free Comic Book Day 2012.

Well, shoot. How do I write this review without giving anything away about the real world problem or that flocking ridiculous twist? *keyboard meets forehead, repeatedly* There is a lot of Spike in this volume and that’s the only reason I gave it the rating I did. Because I love me some Spike. Nom nom nom! Otherwise, it’s so damn stupid I can’t…words fail me. Detective Dowling is proving to be interesting. I hope to see more of him. Andrew’s involved in this one, but he’s responsible for the dumbazz twist, so he’s on my shizzle list. And damn, why can’t they kill Simone already?! In a totally inconsequential side note, I wish Buffy had kept the pink streaks in her hair. I liked them. Also, I give the artwork two thumbs up.

I have been an avid Buffy fan and when I saw that the story continued through graphic novel, I jumped at all of them! Its been fun to catch up and see where the continuation of the Buffy story will go. If you are a fan of Buffy, you will love these! :)

The only way this could have been better was if the show was still on the air. It was great to see the interplay between Spike and Buffy. I always enjoy Spike's blunt pep talks and unwavering support of Buffy. Andrew as usual is causing havoc, Zander and Dawn take their relationship to the next level and Willow tries to move on after the events of Twilight.

A continuation of the Season Nine volume for Buffy; this follows the slayer as she contends with zompires, a rogue slayer, and a well meaning but clueless member of her supporting cast thinking he was doing her a favour. Spike is along for the arc, and the creative team does very well in conveying the personality and essence of these characters, particularly the rich and complex history between Buffy and Spike. The pacing of the story moves along nicely, with some rather unusual twists along the way.

Of course, being a huge fan of the show, when I found out there were comics I had to pick them up. They are more out there and dramatic than the show. If you were a fan and hated saying goodbye to them when they went off air, I think you will enjoy these. They are very readable. The art is well done too.

I started watching buffy a few months ago, and I immediately got hooked. After watching the last season of buffy and angel, I really wanted to know what happened to the characters (especially spike!) after the series. This is the first buffy comic book I read, so some of the things were a bit confusing, but I got the general idea. One thing I thought was just awesome in this book was spike and buffy, and the question she asks him! I don't want to spoil it, but it's super wow! If you're a fan of spike and buffy being together, then buy this book! I probably won't buy another one of these graphic novels,(I just don't really like comics. Don't get into them much. It's me not the writers) but if anyone is a fan of spike and buffy being together, it's the best book to get.

** spoiler alert for Buffy Seasons 1-9!! **

As a devoted fan of the TV show, I had some difficulty adjusting to the world in comic form. Season 8 felt scattered and far-fetched (even for BtVS). With this volume from Season 9, the storyline has evened out and found its thread.

Highlights of this volume: flashbacks of Nikki, Principal Wood's mother, run in parallel along Buffy's anguish at her pregnancy. Bringing back plot elements of the Buffybot in the copy of Buffy and her relationship with Spike kept a nostalgic feel to the plot, while still exploring Buffy's uncertain future.

As always, the great artwork and beautiful coloring make this a TPB to treasure. I always love seeing preliminary sketches and other background material at the end of the book as well.
