This 084149 Zero Periscope is specifically designed for use in situations where the dryer Outlet overlaps or is very close to the wall Outlet. The 2 inch by 6 inch smooth aluminium construction telescopes to handle outlets up to 5 inches distance from center to center. The 4 inch diameter draw band collar synchs down over the clothes dryer vent i. e. . The 4 inch diameter crimped fitting slides into most wall ies. Once installed, it needs only 2. 5 inches clearance behind the dryer. If your outlets are very close and you need to move the dryer closer to the wall, this vent maintains critical airflow and provides all metal performance. Clothes dryer manufacturers specify "only rigid or flexible metal vent shall be used for exhausting. Do not use plastic or metal foil vent. " installation instructions are included inside each carton. The zero periscope is built in the USA by Builder's Best.

Worked fine for me. It's a bit of a pain to install, but that's more a function of the usage than the product itself. I have very little clearance between my dryer and the wall where the vent is located. Using a flexible tube was not a great option because I had to compact it so much. This product works well for tight spaces. My vent and dryer were only offset by about an inch, but this product was a much better fit, and more sturdy than compressing a standard vent tube into that small of a space.

TWO THINGS YOU'LL WANT FOR EASIER INSTALLATION:
- Thermal Foil Tape (available for $5-6 on Amazon
- An flexible bit extender for your drill or electric screwdriver - this will make it much easier to reach behind the dryer once it's in place to tighten the clamps.

As I said, installation was a bit annoying, but that's because I'm working in such a tight space. What I found worked best for me was measuring it as the directions indicated and then testing it loosely to make sure it fit. Once I had it to the right size, I trimmed the excess material, and then sealed the whole thing with THERMAL FOIL TAPE. {You will need to buy a role of this tape to make it airtight and work efficiently. That's not a flaw, it's just a reality of how the product has to be adjustable before you install it.)

After I had it all ready to go, I connected it first to my dryer while it was still pulled out and I had room to work on it. I screwed down the clamp and got it fitting securely. I then lined up the external vent and pushed the dryer back in place. I found that it fit better if I made 4 small cuts in the periscope vent's outlet pipe so I could squeeze it into the wall vent. It's also helpful to have someone slowly push the dryer into place while you squeeze the periscope outlet into the wall vent. Once it was snugly in place, I used a cordless screwdriver with flexible bit extender and a socket bit to reach behind the dryer and tighten down the outlet clamp.

It's not a quick and easy install, but it's completely doable by the average person -- it just takes some patience and planning. And once installed, it's working well.

This solved my dryer vent problem. Before, I had a squashed kinked paper hose that didn't allow enough air through and substantially reduced the drying efficiency. It's amazing what a difference this has made in the functioning of my dryer which now dries clothes in less than half the time it was taking before. Based on the reviews I read here, I purchased thermal tape along with the vent so that I could tape up all the seams once I figured out the right configuration of the vent. So, basically, I put the vent in place for sizing purposes, then removed it and taped it up and then re-installed it for good. The vent tube was a little too big to fit into the outlet in my wall but the metal is soft enough that I could just cut some slits along the edge of the tube and squeeze it to make it fit. The whole process took probably about an hour including time to clean up the dust bunnies and random socks behind my dryer.

This product solved my problem with replacing a kinked dryer vent tube in such a tight space, but it was very hard to install. Once you have it properly aligned to the vent from the dryer to the wall vent, it takes a lot of stretching and maneuvering to secure it by screwing on the neck band. However, once I was able to conquer the installation it worked great. I might add that the difficulty with the installation was less to do with the actual product and more to do with working in a very tight space since my dryer is in the corner of a small laundry room and less than 10 inches away from the washer. The installation might have been a lot easier for someone who is more mechanically inclined but for a novice DIY'er it was hard!

This product works great if you can get it on. Like the other reviews have mentioned, it doesn’t fit too well. It’s unfortunate, because the pipe size from the wall, I believe, is standard. However, this is made to be the same size as the wall pipe instead of a bit bigger to be able to wrap around it.

We reclaimed a good 10 inches of our laundry room once we got it on; which is why I gave it 4 stars. It does work. Just be ready to spend an hour or so and be prepared to run through all your swear words.

Not easy, but effective

A bit difficult to install, but mainly due to the small space. Need tin snips and aluminum duct tape to seal the seams once you get it to the size you want it. The old vent hose used to crimp behind the dryer and restrict air flow, this box sped up drying substantially, takes about half the time to dry a load of laundry. It will be a pain to remove for the annual duct cleaning, but overall worth it

Fits on easily enough and clamps hold in place. It slides so the description is slightly misleading. So you can slide the unit to shorten from 5 inches to 0 inches. You just have to trim the box with some tin snips so you don't need to rotate.

Because it slides, it doesn't produce the tightest seal. Need some metal tape or paste to seal it all up once you're happy with the fit.

The metal itself is super thin gauge. Super easy to bend and kink the metal if not careful. I expected a bit better for a sliding piece as I'm sure if you're not careful, it will pop apart.

Its very hard to believe this made it as an "Amazon Choice". It's why I bought it. Big let down. The tin is not much thicker than BBQ aluminum foil; it is very flimsily put together, including the duct clamps. The edges are not sealed very well and lint ends up escaping to behind the dryer. One of the screws on the duct clamps was stripped. None of the materials come any where close to what you would buy in the ducting section of a home reno store. No legitimate builder would use this product. It was also poorly packed with the instructions crunched up in a ball. I wouldn't recommend this product for any use other an ashtray. I will try again and order a big name appliance brand on Amazon that makes a similar device at much more money. Save your money - stay away.

Not satisfied with this product because for the price I was expecting a much better quality. The product fell apart during installation. Just while gently wiggling the dryer back into position. Ended up having to tape it all together with metal tape. Would have preferred to return it for a refund but we had to get the job done.
Hope it lasts. The idea and design is good, but the quality is sadly lacking on this product. Not recommended.

I liked the solution for a very tight space between the dryer and the wall - saves significantly the wasted space in comparison with a flexible vent connection. I liked the 3-D space adjustment. I didn't like the quality and neatness of the workmanship. I hate the Phoenix Homes Builder in Ottawa and LG dryer manufacturer who don't give a thought on how the connection would be made without such a pain and primitive design for the customer and the user. Their design of the vent and the exhaustion is terrible for making effortlessly a tight connection between the wall and the dryer.
