I'm a SAS platform administrator who has also done SAS BI content development. If you're a SAS BI developer you should definitely get this book - it's full of gems. If you're a SAS platform administrator supporting SAS BI content developers then I think you will benefit from this book too. It helps us to understand what the BI people do and is packed with information on what we can do to support them. The book consists of many short practical examples of typical tasks for BI content developers and includes information about any administration requirements too. I liked that there are lots of compact, good quality, well thought out, annotated screenshots. They help you know exactly where you need to be and make the book very easy to read. When a BI developer needs administrator assistance, the instructions are provided right there in context. BI developers will know what administration support is required and administrators will understand why BI developers need that support.

The authors have done a great job of distilling the "how to's" of the SAS EBI products into a practical easy to follow guide. They clearly have a lot of experience with the products and have organized the information with implementation in mind. For example, they a table listing all types of prompts and what macro variables are available in each. I used the book to study for my SAS BI Content developer exam and the content help me pass the exam in a big way.

I purchased this book from Amazon - the shipping and delivery is superfast. This book mainly introduces SAS Institute's latest development efforts in business intelligence. It covers a wide range of packages or interfaces, including SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS OLAP Cube Studio, SAS Information Map Studio, SAS Web Report Studio, SAS Add-in for MS Office, SAS BI Dashboard and SAS Information Delivery Portal. The 365-page book provides detailed introductions and discussions in its 10 chapters for each of those products. As a mainframe SAS programmer always writing codes on the server side, I am most interested in the topics about the stored processes appeared in Chapter 2 and Chapter 3. SAS's stored process, which is a SAS program stored in a SAS logical server, designs for the purpose of reusability and reliability on PC architecture. This book is so far the most inclusive introduction about how to create and work with those stored processes. In addition, personally I pretty like the two authors' writing style -- they use ample diagrams, illustrations and screenshots. Those who don't have prior experience with business intelligence like me can also enjoy the knowledge in the book. I also noticed that the authors have an accompanying blog about this book -- the authors are quite approachable and the reader can interact with them easily. Just one complaint -- the resolution of some graphs in the book may be increased since sometimes I feel difficult to recognize the small fonts on the dialog box. Overall, this book is well designed and has very high quality. It should be a must-have item for the SAS BI developer and those who just want to get to know this fast-growing field.

Last year I began using the SAS EBI platform. I would have had such an easier job of it if I had this book on hand as reference. There is so much you can do with this reporting system and this book lays it all out in an easy to understand fashion for the beginner as well as a more advanced administrator.

The examples and screenshots are excellent. They helped me learn more tricks and reporting techniques, but more important to me they validated my current processes.

I am looking forward to future books by Tricia and Angela.
