About the Author
From 2008 to the present, Brian Benedict has served with Police and Firemen's Insurance Association and currently holds the position of Midwest regional sales manager, managing up to sixty representatives in departments from Ohio to Colorado. He has trained both new and veteran department representatives, imparting insurance product information and innovating sales and service techniques, all while also performing interviewing and hiring duties. Personal experience making presentations to multiple fire departments has taught him much about how to connect. During the twenty-year period from 1996 to 2016, Brian held active employment as a firefighter, gaining the following training and certifications: • Firefighter 1 & 2 • Engineer (Driver Operator) • EMT—Emergency Medical Technician • Hazardous Materials—B • Technical Rescue Awareness • Fire Officer 1 & 2 • Fire Instructor • Fire Inspector 1 & 2 • Fire Investigator • CFEI—Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator • Homeland Security Bomb School, New Mexico Tech • ATF Post Blast Investigative Techniques • Various Fire Investigation classes through Indiana Public Safety Institute • Arson Investigator—National Fire Academy, Maryland • Courtroom Testimony Course for Arson Investigators Prior to entering the fire service, Brian worked for Cellular One in Dayton, Ohio. Between 1991 and 1996, he held positions as a technician, account executive, and customer service supervisor. He credits Cellular One with giving him his early training as a connector. Thanks to their programs, he learned the importance of interpersonal relationships, networking, communication, and putting service first. To this day, he strives for the win-win. The legacy of military service that included grandfathers Daniel Woodman and Fortis Benedict, US Army, and father Phillip Benedict, US Air Force, had a powerful influence on Brian and his twin brother Bruce. Brian served five years as a wire systems installer in the army, advancing to the rank of sergeant. He carried out duty assignments in Fort Jackson, SC; Fort Gordon, GA; Fort Bragg, NC; and Karlsruhe, Germany. He completed the US Army Non-Commissioned Officer Academy and Primary Leadership Development Course. Bruce Benedict retired as a US Army Major, having worked in intelligence, with three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and many assignments throughout the world. He still consults with intelligence professionals in Quantico, VA, and Washington, DC.
