Good book - short but complete - with the information you need to build a foundry furnace. My only caveat is that it is dated. There are burner designs that are simpler and much easier to build, better ways of making refractory, better designs for lid lift mechanisms -- well you get the idea.
These designs are in different places on the web and are not published in a book. Perhaps the author will do a new revision.

I found this to be an excellent reference for those who wish to build their own crucible furnace. The text and illustrations were complete and easy to follow. I would encourage others to also check out Gingery's other titles on building crucible furnaces.

This book goes into everything needed to make a gas fired Furnice. I have yet to build my foundry but the general concepts used in this book will make it much easier to design my own system. Has some great diagrams, but is very general in putting it together. If you are looking for a general idea and guide book this is the one for you. However, If you are looking for a easy, cheap way to make a furnace you should probably look somewhere else.

As always Gingery books are well designed with clear drawings and dimensions. With these instructions you will be able to build a crucible furnace capable of melting most available amateur metals. The cautions for handling crucibles could be a little more emphatic. More complete ancillary equipment descriptions would be desirable.
