This really is a good book for the parents of tweens and teens. The author gives specific advice based on age group, so he's not telling you to do things the same for an 8 year old that he would for a 16 year old. Although the focus is on resilience, it's also really helped my relationship with my 15 year-old as well. I never realized how much I "lectured" until I read this book, but now I know what to do instead and it really has changed how I communicate with my daughters in a positive way. My 15 year-old has actually started having conversations with me instead of giving me one word answers!
Great book, but don't wait til your kids are tweens or teens to read it!
The reason I chose this book is that son is 13 and recently turned from a sweet kid into a hostile one with lackluster effort on homework. This book said that some teens feel too much pressure to perform and respond by pretending they don't care. That may be the problem, but I still don't know how to address it. The book suggested focusing on character and process (integrity, hard work) rather than achievements like grades. If the book has ideas on what specifically I should do, it's too scattered and buried to be useful to me.

Would commend to anyone who thinks 'It will all be fine if we just muddle along' - that's when life reminds you that every parent (you included) is an amateur.
I am not great on 'experts' in this area - at the end of the day every family is different and there is no perfect recipe. This book has some great ingredients in it for your own 'cake' though...
