A friend gave me this CD and I haven't been able to stop listening to it for the last five days! I haven't had a CD capture, even hypnotize, me like this in years. It is truly a masterpiece. If you like soulful, jazzy, somewhat electronic music, please do yourself and purchase this CD... Even if you don't like this kind of music, buy this CD so you can be converted into a hardcore fan. I normally believe that everyone has their own taste in music and am open minded, but I am sorry, if you don't like this CD then something is wrong with your eardrum, your brain or both.
Built on Glass is Chet Faker's first studio album. If you've never heard of Chet Faker, his music is basically like listening to the sweetest, most glorious whiskey you've ever tasted....in audio form. It'll f*** you up, but in the best way possible.
Chet Faker is basically what would happen if you took a young male singer with an angelic voice, beat the s*** out of him, forced him to smoke a couple packs of cigarettes per day, and then sent him to live with your rad Australian uncle for a couple years. If you came home to find half your liquor cabinet raided and Chet Faker laying out on your expensive couch with the hot, tattooed barista you've been trying to talk to for the last three months half naked making coffee for you both with the $80 pack of coffee illegally harvested by trained chimps in the congo you managed to have smuggled into the states, you wouldn't even be mad because he's sick af.
This album is basically Chet Faker's first time having this much creative freedom. Yeah, it gets kind of weird at times, but that's the beauty of it. He just does whatever he wants on this album and literally does not care. Not all the tracks are stellar, but on the tracks that he does succeed on, he absolutely kills it (Melt). Even the tracks that suck, I'll admit are at least still pretty interesting to listen to **cough cough** "Cigarettes and Loneliness" ** cough cough.** But it's all good, whatever Chet Faker does, you gotta love him. I mean, dude literally walks around with a fat beard and a beanie ALL THE TIME.
In any case, buy the album. If you get the vinyl, the records are clear which is a cool little bonus. If nothing else, this album will probably be worth $200.00 in 5 years.
Imagine Nightmares on Wax's "Smokers Delight" fused with a chill Mayer Hawthorne - that is as close as I can get to an approximation.
Worth the money...definitely.
