MY FAVORITE ALBUM EVER. Not just by Reubens. I originally bought this CD in like 2006 or something, when they did a couple of tours with The Format and Steel Train (the good ol' days). A couple of years ago my CD book was stolen out of my car so I obviously lost this CD. Never even bothered looking for it because who really buys CD's anymore?? I've looked multiple times in the Amazon MP3 store app on my phone, but they didnt have this one on there! Then one day I was on Amazon and searched for this album, and it was available in CD not MP3 format. AND there was only 1 left in stock. I obviously bought it and am proud to say that it is the only CD I own!!

This album is the defining moment in a career of amazing songwriting for Reubens Accomplice. From the power of the opening track to the epiphany and thrill of the bonus song, every piece of this cd works incredibly well with each other part to create something truly special.
RA have a special gift for combining innocent lyrics with biting wit, and effortlessly mixing pop, indie, pixies-rock, country and a slide guitar and banjo in on a few tracks just in case you needed to know that a banjo could rock. The trade off between Jeff and Chris' night-and-day different vocal styles is awesome and at it's best when they are putting it to use harmonizing (think Beach Boys without the surfy cheese).
I guess it comes down to the fact that they make intricate music that never feels intricate or forced or boring... listing to this thru headphones on the iPOD is a treat. The guitars create lines around each other that seems like they are coming from a veteran bluesman's hands. And you can literally hear something new each time you listen to it.
There is a lot to take away from this cd (elements of Tanner, Pixies, JEW and Wilco all with a pop undertone) and is definitely worth owning.

Short and sweet:
If you're already a fan of Arizona rockers Reuben's Accomplice, you'll dig the new sounds.
If you're not, it's pretty much a toss up. Give the tracks a spin and see what you think. If you like bands like Jimmy Eat World, you'll be pleased with their sound.
I was a little dissapointed in the fact that there weren't as many moments on the record that I felt just stuck out. I still appreciate the new sounds all the same.
Also, whether you like the CD or not, one must admit Jim Adkins did very well in the production of this album.

Reubens Accomplice is an AWESOME band and they have written and produced some wonderful songs for "The Bull, The Balloon, and The Family." I've had this disc for over a year and still listen to it every few weeks.

What I like most about this album and the band is the way Chris' and Jeff's vocals work together. The are decidely unique voices on their own, but the blend of the two voices on harmonies raises the hair on my neck!

This same technique is used with their individual guitar parts as each song usually has relatively simple riffs, but they are beautifully intertwined. Add to that what John and Ryan do on the drums and bass and you get some of the best songs I've *ever* heard, like "In and Out of Key" and "All Chorus."

Without question, one of the top 5 bands in Arizona! Also without question, Reubens Accomplice is a band that BANDS sing along to (ie. Jimmy Eat World, The Format, Nigel, etc.)
