Mobster Carlos Cortes is moving his drug operation back into Texas, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get it done quickly, whether it’s bribes or murder. We have an interesting main character, Connie, a cop with ties to the mob through her uncle Dominic, a mafia Don.
A highly entertaining read.
This book did not disappoint. Not only did I get to find out more about Connie and Dominic, but I got to enjoy a very unexpected twist. This is something I would never have guessed in a million years, although I read detective mysteries. And then there is Carlos, being Carlos; an utterly ruthless man who is still human enough to be a good husband and father to all appearances.
This is the sort of book that demands to be read at once. I found it impossible to put down. Now I am looking forward to the next book in this series as I hope to have more of the story of Tip. I want to know who killed his mother and why.
This book is good, but not great. Giammatteo's books have the quality of deep emotions and moral dilemmas confronted by the characters. This one has some elements of that, but not to the depth of others. They seemed mere after-thoughts rather than themes. The ending is a bit a predictable, particularly if one analyzes the title.
Ok, that is the bad news. The good news is that the plot is, as usual a good one. The characters are developed and not stereotypical. The dialogue is realistic and, at times, amusing. The killer is a great character from whom I wanted even more. SO I should have tempered my criticism. This is still a good mystery. It just does not hit the A+ rating of this author's other books. A B+ from an author of this talent is still a darn good read.
Please continue to write such great books. And if this is a new book to anyone, make sure you read all of what this author writes!!
This book was great and a good follow up to the previous Connie Gianelli mystery. This book could stand alone but you will probably enjoy it more if you the first Connie Gianelli mystery.
Buy it and read it, you won't be sorry.
