This is another tribute CD from Deadline Music and as far as tributes go, They have put out some of the better ones. This one's a tribute to "The Motorcity Madman" Himself Ted Nugent. What make's this Cd so good, is Jake E. Lee.I've always loved His Guitar work, whether it was with Ozzy or Badlands or, even more recently in Fine Pink Mist and Rob Rock's solo CD. The Man is vastly underated !!! And most of Ted's big hit's are covered here, starting out with "Cat Scratch Fever" with John Corabi (Union,Ex-Motley Crue) on vocals.My only beef is that Jake E. Lee is not on lead guitar on this track or 2,3,7 and 11.These tracks are handled by Dj Ashba who I am not familar with.He does a very nice job though. The production is crisp (some tribute CD's sound like they were recorded in a garage) and the drums also sound great as they are handled by Randy Castillo (Ex-Ozzy - Motley Crue). Each song features a different vocalist from an 80's hard rock band such as Kelly Hansen (Unruly Child - Hurricane) and Jani Lane (Warrant). Each song stays fairly close to Ted's version as they should but the different vocalist's each put Thier own stamp on them too: Like Taime Downe on the song "Hey Baby", He almost makes this song sound like the band He came from, Faster Pussycat! Very much worth the price of admission, Nuge Fan's what are You waiting for?!
I've bought many of the recent tributes ranging from excellent ("Thunderbolt" AC/DC tribute) to spotty ("Leppardmania" Def Lep tribute). This tribute to Sweaty Teddy is one of the best. First and foremost is the guitarwork. I've been a big Jake E. Lee fan for a while, and his work, as is the other guitarist's, is impeccable on the disc, particularly on "Just What the Dr. Ordered." The great guitar work is reason enough to have the disc, but the singing is top notch as well. I'm a big fan of Jani Lane, Taime Downe, and Phil Lewis and was pleased with their performances, but I was pleasantly surprised by the great turns by others. Kory Clarke and Marq Torien, namely. All in all, a brilliant tribute to the Motor City Madman.
