The authors of these books never cease to amaze me. The more the write the same stories over and over the better they get. The bullets never hit the bad guys enough to kill them but they never miss. Good stuff as we all need the GOOD GUY to keep winning.
My only request would be to put a face to the guys that assume the roles. I see them in my mind and all of a sudden the 'dark haired stranger' becomes a blond guy?! WTH!
Like the Loner On the cover you see this dark complected man in black. However, when you read the book he is blond, or sandy haired!
Just saying....................

I read loner book 7 first and then went back and and got all the rest. This character was typical of JA Johnstone's dad, William Johnstone, in the was the character has been developed. I am just now reading the Drifter which developes the Frank Morgan Character, who is the Dad of Conrad Browning. Great books all.

But why after all I have read so many of his books how can I not rate and be accurate. I would bet, if you like the other ones I have rated you will like this one. Of course some are slightly better, but always entertaining without suffering through books like taxes and legal.

I have read all the 'The Loner' books in this series. As with all books - this and others - that are part of a series, once the main story has been completed, if a new more interesting plot does not emerge, the book becomes 'boring' and not as interesting. This book was interesting in parts, but I did not feel the same effect as I did with the others. A goog 'read' not the less

The Kid makes friends with a marshall that has a touch of dimentia. He becomes friends with the marshall and proceeds to spend a great deal of time with the man since they are both headed to the same town. The Kid realizes the marshall has a memory problem and sticks with him to help him follow through to the town he use to be the marshall of. Even though the Kid realizes the marshall is no longer a marshall, he still gives him his deserved respect by calling him marshall.

They both encounter several problems along the way to the town and handle those as a team. After getting to the town, the people remember the marshall including a special lady that helped him after his wife died. The marshall felt at home and seemed to do better except at certain times when he seemed to be off in his own world. They combine to help the town rid itself of some bad hombres after the present marshall is hurt. Once that fracas is over, the Kid decides to ride along with the marshall on his way to see his daughter.

On the trip, they stop in another town and help that town rid itself of some trouble and the old marshall just seems to be at his best when dealing with trouble. The marshall of that town told the old marshall to come back and stay any time. You could tell by reading the whole book that this was a genuine offer. After saying goodbye, they headed to the marshall's daughters house.

Once they get there, his daughter treats the marshall like an invalid and wants to lock him in his room and keep him there. She pretty much wanted to take all of his pride and go-gettum away from him and put him aside so he would not be a burden to her. The marshall runs away and the Kid goes after him.

I have read all of the JA Johnstone Loner series. I can't wait for the next book. You can start with any book and enough information about the past is presented that you feel like you are with Conrad Browning on his search for the truth.
