Mikey's going to a new school. He can't wait to meet new people. His first day, however, two boys jump out and demand his lunch or money. They pushed Mikey to the ground and punched him. Trying to be brave, Mikey hides his tears and goes on with his day. Although Mikey tries to find other ways to avoid the bullies, it doesn't work. Then one day Mikey had an idea.

Terrific writing and characters we've all known in our own lives. This book shows children the right way to handle bullies. I like that Mikey decides to take other actions rather than try to fight these bullies. It's positive look at handling bullies.

I didn't find issues.

I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because all children need to read this one. ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~

As I read your book,"Bullies Beware," to the two children I tutor, they noticed that there were rhyming words. They began to find the pattern within the text and inquired if they were paragraphs or stanzas. Needless to say, that opened up a conversation about poetry and writing in general.

We spoke about morals, values and bullying in our own school. I was surprised as one of the children asked why the person being bullied didn't say anything to his teacher sooner or place a note in the "communication box"- I have a communication box behind my computer with a sticky pad...children may write questions, share a concern, etc. with confidence and I resolve the issue through notes back to them (notes in their back packs or sometimes call them up to my desk and pretend to show them something on the computer concerning their grade as we briefly discuss an issue). I explained this was not the case in all classrooms.

They also shared times when they were bullied and/or someone they knew was going through something similar. This in turn had them both share ideas of how to resolve issues and different avenues to take regardless of how big or small the situation may be. Thank you for sharing your writing with us as well as sparking questions and thoughts.

Read this book to school 204 children during Anti-Bullying Week. One 7 year old described it as "brilliant"! Other children commented that it helped to explain the emotions of the victim. Another child stated that it told them what to do if they wee being bullied. A great book to read and lots of social and moral issues to explore and use as teaching points.

Paul's book has also been recommended reading through Bully Police USA bullypolice.org because it is helpful for children going through this situation. I reviewed and I like it. So I can honestly say it is worth reading with learning and knowing what to do to help your child.
