Terrific writing and characters we've all known in our own lives. This book shows children the right way to handle bullies. I like that Mikey decides to take other actions rather than try to fight these bullies. It's positive look at handling bullies.
I didn't find issues.
I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because all children need to read this one. ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~
We spoke about morals, values and bullying in our own school. I was surprised as one of the children asked why the person being bullied didn't say anything to his teacher sooner or place a note in the "communication box"- I have a communication box behind my computer with a sticky pad...children may write questions, share a concern, etc. with confidence and I resolve the issue through notes back to them (notes in their back packs or sometimes call them up to my desk and pretend to show them something on the computer concerning their grade as we briefly discuss an issue). I explained this was not the case in all classrooms.
They also shared times when they were bullied and/or someone they knew was going through something similar. This in turn had them both share ideas of how to resolve issues and different avenues to take regardless of how big or small the situation may be. Thank you for sharing your writing with us as well as sparking questions and thoughts.
