The Bully Tools 82515 Round Point Shovel features all the elements of a well-built and affordable American tool and more. With a closed back design to eliminate debris build-up, this true 14-gauge steel shovel is built to last. The reinforced fiberglass handle is built with triple wall construction that features a reinforced wood core, 25-percent thicker fiberglass and an extended steel ferrule to resist bending.

Additional features include a welded rib and I-beam construction that provide extra strength and support to ensure many years of service. All shovels are made of true 14-gauge steel that is up to 30% thicker than competitor models. The round point blade measures 9.25-inches by 11-inches and the long-design handle measures 48.5-inches.

You will love this shovel

I like this shovel. Just pick it up and look at it and you can tell it is a quality tool. Very sturdy and lots of well-designed details. I've spent about 3 hours digging out stumps with it so far. It is so much easier to get real work done with this shovel than any of the others I have available. I broke my 30+ year old Sears Best Craftsmen and they replaced it the best one that had, but it is a real clunker; bought this one to replace the 'replacement' and am I real happy I did. I light the weight of the shovel -- not too heavy, but still enough heft to power through a root. The handle flexes a little more than I'm used to (using all-wood handles), but when it starts to bend that is probably a good indicator that maybe I'm using a little too much force and should ease up a bit on the prying. I wish it was sharper right out of the box, but that can be fixed easily enough with a flat file and 10 minutes of spare time.

I have the traditional wooden handled shovels, and have used many other variations in my trade for leveling, trench work, poo-catapulting into the neighbor's yard, etc.. For my own home and side-job use, I reviewed MANY other brands and handle every model Home Dippy and Lowe's had to offer. I read up on this brand and it stood out, so I tried one. This is the last brand I'll ever buy. I have 2 of the Square Points, and 2 Spades, plus rakes, etc. They are HEAVY DUTY!

The steel is thick, and the design is well thought-out. The I-beam construction behind the neck of the shovel adds remarkable strength to the prying force. I can put 270lbs of standing/stomping force and not feel hesitant about bending the steel or breaking the triple layered, wood core handle. The rubber grip cap is comfortable and solid, even after leather gloves hands. I know a lot of people prefer to sharpen the spade tips for root cutting and such, but my land soil is rocky, so I don't want to chance abusing this shovel beyond common sense.

I am a geek and a critic when it comes to to quality USA made products, and this brand has impressed me. I know they offer a higher grade for contractors, but I can't imagine I'll ever break this without intentionally abusing/misusing it. Buy this and you'll see why. American made = Americans paid.

Burly, but not very practical

Without a doubt, this is one burly shovel. I'm sure it would take a lifetime of abuse, and keep coming back for more. Unfortunately, the pictures don't show the awkward welded gusset on the back of the lower handle (just above the blade) and protruding rivet that holds the fiberglass handle in the blade. The gusset and rivet are both located where you would normally hold the shovel, making it very uncomfortable to use. I shovel for a living, and I can't imagine having to hold this shovel - never mind actually use it with force - the way the gusset and rivet are positioned. Also, it is a bit long for my liking for a D-handle shovel.

Bully Tools are great. Dime for dime, I haven't encountered a better line of garden tools readily available to the DIYer. This is my sixth bully shovel - I insist on having the right tool for the job at hand. This model has proven to be the choice for unloading landscape rock from my truck. The short handle and wide, comfortable D-grip are just right for the job. The head has a shallower curve than other round point shovels that let's it more easily slide into the rock pile and carries the right amount of heavy material in each scoop. Overall construction features and build quality are consistent with the rest of my Bully tools - which is very good. The working ends are all built like Sherman tanks and the handles are sturdier than necessary.

Love this shovel. I've dug a few holes in very rocky soil and it has acquitted itself nicely. Firm, stiff, and balanced. It's my new favorite shovel. I read a review that complained about the shank, or connection between the shaft and the head of the shovel, that it hurt their hand one something. I didn't have that experience. I'm entirely satisfied and recommend it without hesitation. I really like the steel head. It really does a great job.

I've spent a lot of time shoveling in my life: growing up on a small farm, working construction in college, and now owning 5 acres. I've shoveled everything imaginable with lots of different shovels.

I had problems with this shovel right out of the box. First of all, the tip was bent. No huge deal, I bent it back. The metal on this shovel is heavy gauge. If you don't plan on sharpening the shovel with a file or low speed grinder, find a different shovel. Without a good sharpening, this is very much a blunt instrument.

Speaking of the gauge, the rest of the spade is fairly overbuilt. Extra enforcement in the neck. Renforcement stamping. It almost seems as it was meant for a heavier handle. In practice, you have a very head heavy shovel. The spade is fairly wide and flat. It's more of a "shoveling" shovel than a "digging" shovel. But it's far too head heavy to be a shovel for shoveling materials. Conversely. It's too flat and wide for digging in hard pack.

I really wanted to like this shovel, but it's kind of "blah". For the same price you could probably find a more purpose built digging shovel and a better lightweight shoveling shovel. Unfortunately, this shovel does no one thing well.

Solid shovel but watch for paint defects and scratches

Nice solid shovel but the paint on the metal was terrible. When I peeled the sticker off, it pulled a nice rectangular chunk of paint along with it. I hit it with a wire wheel and re-painted it with some flat black enamel. We'll see how it holds up. Some people can argue it's a shovel it's not meant to look pretty but I happened to buy it to mount on the back of my Wrangler and can't have it look terrible either.
