Precisionist TechnologyWith Precisionist, Bulova has added a third prong to a standard two prong quartz crystal creating a torsional resonator. This innovation results in eight times the vibration frequency of a traditional quartz watch resulting in the most accurate watch with a continuously sweeping second hand. The aesthetic movement of the second hand becomes the symbol to the consumer of Bulova Precisionist and signals a watch with accuracy so exceptional, you can see it. The technology is accurate to 10 seconds per year as compared to most other quartz watches, which are accurate to fifteen seconds per month.
In 1875, Joseph Bulova, a 23-year-old immigrant from Bohemia, set up shop in New York City and a legendary American watch brand was born. Since that time, Bulova has stood proudly in the vanguard of timekeeping innovation, committed to the legacy of creativity and excellence established by its founder.
A pioneering force in the industry, Bulova transformed how watches were worn and how time was perceived, registering over 50 patents as he and his company built a record of creativity including the first full lines of men’s and ladies’ wristwatches (1919 and 1924). To ensure the utmost in precision, in 1920, Bulova even established its own observatory – located atop its New York skyscraper. With the same spirit of innovation, following World War II, determined “to serve those who served us,” Bulova established The Bulova School of Watchmaking, using new and unique methods to train disabled veterans for positions in the watch and jewelry industry. Then, in 1960, Bulova changed timekeeping forever with the revolutionary Accutron, the world’s first fully electronic watch. An integral component of U.S. space technology, Accutron timing was used on 46 NASA missions, including Apollo XI, the first lunar landing (1969).
Today, this dedication to creativity continues, with Bulova the only brand to offer three distinct timekeeping technologies – quartz, mechanical and Precisionist. One of the world’s most recognized brands, Bulova continues to maintain its position at the forefront of the timekeeping industry, upholding an extraordinary heritage of achievement in design, style and technology as it expands to meet the needs of a diverse global audience.

The "precisionist" movement is both very precise and very cool.
In more than two weeks I have owned it, I cannot detect even a fraction of a second difference from the atomic clock. (I can now believe the claimed precision of better than 10s per year.) (I have another watch with a claimed 10s/year claimed precision, but that one gains one second in two weeks... A Pulsar PSR10 for those interested.)
The movement of the second hand is quite cool, reminding (but more fluid than) a mechanical watch. (Plus there is no "quartz" written on the dial.)
One thing to be aware of: this is a pretty large watch - 44mm case diameter. (Amazon seems confused here.) But it sits nicely on the wrist, due to the watch's curved design.
For me, timekeeping accuracy is the #1 requirement for any watch, before even thinking about its style and appearance. Although I haven't had it long enough to verify its 10sec./year accuracy claim (which I will check against National Bureau of Standards time signal), it appears this modestly priced watch will far outperform my $1,800 Omega, my treasure for many years! After 10 years of use, I had returned my Seiko Kinetic, my "everyday" watch (handsome titanium case) for routine service. I had come to despise this Seiko, because regardless that it cost much more than this Bulova, it always ran more than 15 seconds per MONTH fast (when new, Seiko replaced the movement, with no real improvement). When Seiko quoted about $80 to service the old watch, I seized the opportunity to apply the funds toward the Bulova purchase, and I'm absolutely thrilled! Now I have an "everyday" watch of strikingly handsome appearance, groundbreaking accuracy, all without breaking the bank. From past Bulova (Accutron) experience, I expect a long, trouble-free life from this timepiece.
There are three design features that I find particularly appealing about this watch. First, it has a curved surface that contours to the wrist - looks really nice. Second, the face of the watch has a very nice, multi-leveled layout. There is a black face around which are recessed areas into which raised metal digits are mounted. The recessed portions are gray (looks nice against the black face) and the digits have a brushed, stalnless-steel look to them. It makes for a really nice effect. Third, and perhaps my favorite aspect of this watch, is the sweep second hand. It lends a very nice, sophisticated look to the watch very much consistent with the 'Precisionist' label.
This is a really nice watch that has a nice, solid feel to it. If you're searching for a classy men's watch that balances quality with value - this is your choice!
I have a Bulova Marine Star as well, good quality and style.
I was originally concerned about the size being to large but the contoured face/bezel/case helps for a more fitted feel and look. It's a sturdy watch without being overly bulky. Great design that you will feel confident in wearing this watch.
Unique watch, you can really appreciate the detail of small layers within the face and the functionality and attractiveness of the sweeping second hand. Classy, fashionable, sophisticated, modern, stylish, and subtle yet attention grabbing.
Being cautious of purchasing such items online, I read reviews, etc. on the internet and decided to purchase this watch. I received the Bulova Precisionist Claremont 96B129 nice and new in the Bulova watch box, with the watch around Bulova pillow and info/warranty booklet included. I wanted to check if it was an authentic Bulova so I went on the Bulova website and found a number I could call about my watch. I called this service number and they gave me another number to call, where I spoke to someone to check the numbers on the back case of the watch. Since there are a few sets of numbers he asked for the proper numbers to look up and confirmed it matched the correct model and that it is a Bulova.
I'm very satisfied with my purchased, a great Bulova watch!
Hope this helps.
