Top customer reviews
The design of every part of this is extremely well thought out in a way I've not seen on other manufacturers. The locking mechanism is a simple cam latch which makes installation and removal literally take a second and the method of locking the battery compartment is simply brilliant.
Included in the box is a Velcro patch, two lithium batteries, glock and mil standard adapters and even the tool required to swap adapters (Nice touch)
The beam is bright and clear. The UI is easy and just works. Fit and finish is much better than my streamlight.
Overall, this seems like another home run from Olight.
The light weighs just over 4 oz with batteries and has a five year warranty. It gets surprisingly hot after a couple of minutes - not too hot to hold, but still hot. Mounted to a metal rail, the weapon will also act as a heat-sink. The batteries mount side-by side and the light measures - 1 3/8" wide and 3 1/8" long. The switch is a dual tail design with switch on either side. Tap for on. Hold for momentary. Squeeze both together for rapid flash.
Beam: VERY bright center spot with a long throw (see photos - that tree is about 200 feet away), bright outer circle, with rapid falloff - so it's definitly a spot. Photo of light on side of house is at 15 feet away.
Works on the two most popular rail types (two adapters and tool included), the rail mount uses a positive locking quick release. The rear cap with the switches is also the battery door and has a reinforced latch for securing it. It's also IPX6 sealed against rain, mud, dust and so on. Overall it's a rugged light that will illuminate ANY room, light up across a field, and blind any looking directly at you.
This thing is at or just beyond the dimensional limit of what I would consider to be useful on a pistol unless you carry professionally via OWB or shoulder holster. it is a good deal wider than the G19 and hangs off the front an inch or so also. I'm going to look for a carry holster for it and will edit based on what I find. On a long gun of some type this PL-2 would be absolutely awesome for those folks who currently use cylindrical lights in clamp mounts. The PL-2 is so much smaller, flatter, and closer to the rail than those systems.
Fit and finish are immaculate and I absolutely love the rear loading battery compartment and latching mechanism. mounted on a pistol it is completely impossible to have the batteries fall out since your trigger guard is barricading the battery door. On a rifle I would still completely trust the very stout latch, it is stiffly sprung and very sleek to the body. I also really like the option for either Lithium primary or rechargeable batteries. for carry I would definitely use primaries for their longer use life, and standby performance. For training or fun time I would pop the rechargeable cells in and enjoy stress free use.
Finally, performance... WOW! not only will you EASILY be able to see anything you might potentially put a round through, you will likely give it a bit of a sunburn. Attached is a photo at 15' against a wall showing the ridiculous and bountiful hotspot. Sidespill diameter is about 3 times the hotspot and fades off very nicely. The optics really impress me. Outside in my yard it easily lights up a whole wall of woods at 100yd.
