The written parts are the same as the older and original, but the most importatnt part is missing--no pictures. It is very difficult to have a bird identification book without pictures. Very disappointing.

I truly wasn't sure what to expect with this book; a longtime homeschooler, I hadn't engaged in as much "living science" as I had other subject areas. I was thrilled to find that my children love this book! We enjoy the reading selections and the vocabulary is simply beautiful. Now to get it in print...

I owned this book as a child and it had beautiful photos in it of the birds. Sadly the book got left behind in a move many years ago. This book is the same text but is not quite the same without the photos. However, it is certainly worth a read. I think I'll download some bird photos from the internet when I read this to my grandchild.

My children loved reading this daily along our bird study of North America. It is the best compliment to studying birds because the story was fun and engaging for even the youngest child. This was my children's favorite part of our homeschooling and they couldn't wait to learn about new birds everyday from the character Peter Rabbit and Jenny Wren. We are going to study animals soon with The Burgess Animal Book for children and my children are very excited to learn about animals of North America from the character Peter Rabbit and his friend Jenny Wren. I give this five stars because I also enjoy this fun story which captivated my children to learn more about birds and animals and making homeschooling enjoyable and fun. They were sad when the book ended, so that is why we are starting the animal study and continuing Thornton Burgess Books.

This book contains many wonderful facts about all different kinds of birds and teaches about bird orders and families. Here are some things I learned from reading this book:

1.Both male and female Northern Cardinals can sing.

2.Hummingbirds are good fighters, despite their small size. They use their long, sharp bills to stab oher birds while fighting.

3.Grouse can lay over 15 eggs in one clutch.

4.During the winter, Chickadees find some of their food by gleaning tiny insect eggs from underneath tree branches.

5. Brown Thrashers are closely related to Catbirds and Mockingbirds, but unlike their relatives Thrashers don't imitate other birds.

This is a great book for those who love birds and want to know more about them. It is also appropriate for younger children. I highly recommend his book!

This book is a rare treasure, a simple, yet interesting story that teaches children about animals, their habitats, and their relationships in nature. I have my children draw pictures while I read aloud.

I would give this book 5 stars if it had pictures. I recommend this book to parents who want their young children to know about the real animal world by telling a cute story from Peter Rabbit's point of view. "Bird" book is a little misleading.

My children and I enjoyed reading the Kindle version while looking up each bird in a field guide (Golden Guide to Birds of North America). We have learned so much about all kinds of birds...as well as how to use a field guide. Win-win!

The Burgess Bird book for Children is a great book about birds ( what else?) I learned lots of stuff about birds that I never knew before. This book is told through the eyes of Peter rabbit, as he discovers things he never knew before. I would pay $5 for this book, but lucky me, it's FREE! you should get it for your kindle
