Great Living Book for the Charlotte Mason method of homeschooling.
Only con: they printed it without the color illustrations and that makes a big difference when trying to tie the illustrations to what they are seeing in real life. I would gladly pay more for a reprint of it using the original colored illustrations. The illustrations are labeled with scientific names and page references, so this is a big con for us. However, the story in itself is great if you are just looking to find a good story to peak your little ones interest.
I have found some used originals on Auction sites, but they range up to $150. This has obviously been a favorite for a long time.
We recently found a near mint condition Bird Book by Burgess for a great price and it was immediately a favorite. All of his books are worth the buy! Burgess obviously loved what we wrote about.
