The Solo has seating for one child and features bowed-out sides for extra shoulder room, adjustable suspension, Spring Integrated Technology (S.I.T. ) seating to prevent tangled and limp straps, and all-kit compatibility for optional conversion from biking to strolling, jogging or skiing. Share your love for the outdoors with your little one in the Burley Solo.
Ready to Bike
Jog or Stroll
One of the premium features on Burley’s top of the line child trailers is adjustable suspension. The adjustment mechanism is located on either side of the trailer near the 20-inch alloy spoked wheel. Quickly and confidently adjust the suspension to match your load.
Padded Spring Integrated Technology (S.I.T.) Seat prevents tangled straps and simplifies getting your little one in and out of the trailer. The S.I.T. Seat is also machine washable.
Once you have arrived at your destination, set the hub engaged brake, located just below the two red rear reflectors. Like many features on the Solo the brake is simple to use, convenient and exceeds expectations for performance.
Fully Adjustable Handlebar
A single plastic lever may be released to adjust the foam-lined handlebar, making a transition from bike mode to other modes seamless. When in the fully forward position (bike mode) the handlebar acts as a second roll bar.
The Burley Standard

Safety Is Burley's First Priority

- Flex Connector allows bike to lay flat while trailer remains upright.
- Full internal aluminum roll cage for protection in an accident.

So after selling the Bee privately for what I paid (yes they have great resale) I bought the Solo. The suspension is excellent, my daughter is very comfortable now and so am I. The seat system is a ton better, and having it adjustable is great. She is much happier sitting in the center and having room on either side for her arms, dolls, Sophie, whatever… I can also tell the difference in reduced width both in navigating through tight places and the lower wind resistance.
Handling wise they were both phenomenal; I can tell they’re there going uphill, but it rolls great and tracks great. I love the storage in the back, it’s great to be able to throw gear back there, the diaper bag, food, basically all the stuff I would cram on my back. Plus with the lay flat seat it makes a fantastic package hauler, so I am now able to make UPS deliveries faster with the bike then having to try and navigate traffic and detours downtown.
Would I buy this over the Bee? If you have a very young child, or only one child to transport, and you bike a lot, or have rough surfaces to navigate; yes definitely! If you love biking, do yourself a favor and just cough up the extra money, the enjoyment after just one month was worth the price and with how well this is built I expect it will last a lifetime. I already looking forward to winter and picking up the fat tire set!
One last thing; The connection to the bike is awesome, it’s very easy to connect. The hitch that stays on the bike is very minimal and being able to purchase extras to put on other bikes makes swapping a ton easier.
The tires are really sturdy and spare parts seem to be readily available online. I also bought an extra hitch Burley Design 12.2MM Steel Hitch so that the trailer can be attached to either of 2 family bikes. Clearance on my bike's rear dropout was not ideal so I bought this extension: Burley Design 3/8 x 26 Hitch Alternative Adapter, One Size It comes in different sizes though and I wasn't sure how to find the right size but I got lucky on my first order.
I got this model over cheaper ones because of the suspension but I'm not sure how much it's helping. It's hard to gauge and my 2.5 year old does complain about bumps but we are most often riding on some horrible Jersey City, NJ pavement and sidewalks.
Storage behind the rear seat is not as much as I expected. It's hard to pack more than a couple super market shopping bags due to the size and our dreams of shoving a picnic basket in there were dashed but it's still a decent size to haul around snacks and toys for the better part of a day.
Set up: It was very easy to set up and attach to the bike. While it only comes with one axle hitch, it would take all of 90 seconds to swap it to another bike (just quick-release the rear axle and pop it back on the other bike) if you wanted to take turns hauling it. Attaching the wheels couldn't be easier, just push a button on the hub and slide on. Both trailer arm connections have a safety back-up attachment (trailer to arm, arm to bike).
Maneuverability: The maneuverability is great; I am able to navigate between those narrow posts you often find at trail entrances and make tight turns easily. It does sit left of center, so you do need to remember that and allow extra room on the left when passing objects/people.
Ride: The ride appears to be quite smooth. Within 2 miles my little one was fast asleep. The suspension had 5 settings to accommodate different weight loads (each wheel is set separately, but both should be on the same setting). Changing settings is as simple as turning a knob. The wheels are air inflated (schrader valve) and can be between 40 - 65 psi, so you can also manipulate that to adjust riding comfort (lower psi = softer ride/more effort to pull).
Quality: Top notch quality. Materials are well constructed yet light. The use of Velcro, elastic straps, and zippers are all well thought out. The aluminum frame is light and easy to tow.
Features: There is enough storage space in back for a large diaper bag. The mesh pockets are great for small storage. The handle locks in any position and can serve as an extra roll bar. The parking break is easy to engage & disengage. The 5 point harness straps spring open so they don't get lost under butts (wish our car seat had that) and are well padded. Sun shade is simple yet functional. The hitch allows for the trailer to remain upright even if the bike falls over.
Needless to say, I'm very happy and looking forward to many adventures with the wee one!
