"Why don't you find out?"
"I believe I will."
Five fiery stars for Lauren!!!
For Jamie and Smith, it's always been a great friendship. But they have always been hot for each other and never jumped at the chance for more. Until now.
They were total opposites and Jamie didn't know how they could ever work out.
"She was a romantic, he was a playboy, she was wine, he was beer, she was poetry, he was...wait, did he even read?"
Jamie decides to strike up a deal with Smith. A deal he can't refuse;) But can "friends with benefits" always stay that way?
"When I'm with a woman I'm with that woman, and you might have declared this 'no strings attached' and that's fine for now, but my string is only attached to you."
This was a hot, steamy and quick read! You will love Smith's dirty mouth!! Lawd! I had to fan myself a few times;) I do love a naughty fireman!!
Another wonderful book from Lauren Blakely!!
Burn For Me is an angsty love story filled with passion and hope for more. Jamie and Smith have always been good friends and even though she finds him sinfully sexy she is reluctant to act on those feelings. Why? Well because ever other woman in town feels the same way and how can she compete. She is also afraid of losing Smith as a friend. They have an easy banter and she looks forward to seeing him every day. If they were to become more than friends and he walked away it would crush her. What happens when Jamie gets this crazy idea in her head about a friends with benefits scenario that would only last one week. Could it work? Could she give into the attraction and get Smith out of her system? Maybe.
Smith is crushed that Jamie only wants him for one week. He has been waiting for the opportunity to become more than friends for quite a long time. His jaw drops to the floor when Jamie makes him this crazy offer. He knows he only has one week to show her he can and will be the only man she will ever need.
Lauren once again does an amazing job with character development and while this story is a novella it reads like a complete novel. She is a master at not rushing the ending and that is what I love about all of her books.
If you find a dirty talking fireman to be sexy as sin you will find yourself in lust with Burn For Me.
I must say that I used to be very anti-Contemporary Romance reads. I was all about the romance and enthralled with the historical aspects whether completely factual or not. But I have to say, I have come across some pretty freaking amazing authors with contemporary settings who are winning me over. Lauren Blakely … if you haven’t read her work and you are a fan of hot and heavy, down right dirty, lovable characters with depth, then you are completely missing out! I have really been pounding out the novellas lately in a futile attempt to at least diminish my TBR pile a little. Hilarious, right? I know. But I will say that I have been reading a lot of new-to-me authors and really enjoying getting to know their writing style. Of the last 5 I have read, Ms. Blakely is holding top rank right now. I was really happy with a touch of depth in the last novella I read, but this one blew that one away completely.
Jamie is obsessed with Smith and his amazing firefighter body, who also happens to be her best friend. They do a ton of things together and that isn’t including how often they run into each other in their small town. She wants a committed relationship, but she knows this playboy isn’t the long-term type. She has also just watched her sister crash and burn in her marriage to a firefighter who was completely playing her the whole time, while dallying with just about any woman he could. Needless to say, Jamie is quite sure a fireman is NOT what she needs in her life. She also refuses to risk the loss of a friend if they were to take it too far and things went south. If only she could get his Adonis body out of her head. Smith, on the other hand has only had eyes for Jamie. He knows she thinks he isn’t her type, but he wants a chance to prove to her that he could be exactly what she needs. That chance doesn’t look like it will ever present itself until a little too much wine leads to an exit in Jamie’s inhibitions and the best sex of their lives. So naturally, the way to purge this new found obsession from her system would be to make a no-strings-attached deal for a week of mind blowing sex, right? But Smith has other plans and knows this is the only chance he is ever going to get to prove himself to her.
I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Smith and Jamie. Smith is the country guy with manners that you’d actually want to take home with you but with that playboy persona. I like that he knows what he wants and that even though women are basically falling at his feet, he stays grounded and focused on what he wants. Jamie is understandably cautious, but at times I felt a little too cautious. The plot is maybe a little ridiculous because seriously, if you have a connection like that with someone, would it even be plausible that you could purge that person from the depths of your soul? Because that is basically what happened whether they both realized the gravity of their connection initially or not. But hey, that’s one of the great things about reading and getting lost in books … it doesn’t have to be completely realistic to be enjoyable. I definitely made a connection with these characters and enjoyed their electric chemistry together. Seriously explicit content, relatable characters, smoking hot firefighters and a deliciously dirty mouth from Smith … I have to say, I am genuinely looking forward to more from Ms. Blakely!
