This book was so fun! The storyline was unique & the characters, both important and not, all had their own distinct personalities which is something I enjoy seeing. B/c the other characters seemed so great, I was afraid Book 2 would go into another character story -which is something you see a lot when side characters are so flushed out. So I was thrilled when I saw the next books were about Harper & Knox as well. I LOVE who their demons are, it's so different from everything else I've seen out there. Our girl isn't a goody goody, her family is AMAZING, and she is already one of my fav heroines ever.
But there is one huge reason that I'm giving this 5 stars (MAY be SLIGHTLY spoiler-ish if you want to know 0 about the relationship dynamic): The characters, mainly the girl, did not rant & rage at each other for the specific purpose of extending the story/romance -they were adults about it all. You usually get 2 things in books like this: Either there is no conflict to the point you are bored to tears, or, more common, the mains rant so much that it becomes irrational & stupid to the point you want to scream at the book b/c you know the author only did it so that they wouldn't get together. Harper had epic issues that would have had her not accepting any kind of relationship with Knox, and I expected her to deny, deny, deny until book 3, at least while I sat back rolling my eyes at the author. But, just as Knox was always surprised by Harper, I was constantly surprised by this book b/c it's not like that. They actually communicate! It blew my mind -ha!
The characters approached things like people actually would as adults and not juvenile children. For that reason I'm giving this 5 stars. I cannot WAIT to read Book 2!
Did I mention that I love this book yet?? Good lord, Knox Thorne. So damn dreamy amd panty-melting HOT! He's this dominant man, his demon is scary as hell but still hot-hot-hot, too. I love him and want one of his kind of demon for myself!! (Can't tell you what kind of demon he is since that would be a spoiler.) Then there's the gorgeous Harper Wallis. She's petite, sweet, but strong as hell with a stubborn streak a mile wide... which makes her a PERFECT counterbalance for Knox's personality.
Look, I'm not big on paranormal stories, I admit. But this one?? This story, these main characters along with all the funny secondary ones, it's bigger than just that. There's a real-life story in here about accepting who you are, just as you are, and the people you love as well. What we call abnormalities and imperfections within each of us, those same things we don't like about ourselves, the RIGHT person will find beauty within them.
Just read it. NOW! Heehee. (Trying out my dominant voice on you. Did it work?) A gigantic 5 FREAKING STARS!
