He's instantly obsessed with Maria, the one who's been blackmailed into seducing Nic, and he finds a way to have her.
There's lots of chemistry, heat and misunderstanding for this Latina bombshell as she struggles to come to grips with her new life.
If you are familiar with Nikita Slater and her books, you can be rest assured that it ends in a happy ending, and there's no cheating despite the marriage thing between Nic and his wife.
I was surprised that I didn't like this story. Why? Because the majority of this author's books I have enjoyed reading and I have read all of them. How can I not when the author well and most of her stories have jealous, possessive and faithful heroes, my kryptonite? While Nic, the hero (I use the term loosely) was the first two, IMO he was not the third.

I could not move past the fact that Nic was married. While it is true that it was a marriage of convenience and never consummated, he was married and had been married for 20 YEARS. Not only was Nic married for 20 years when he kidnapped Maria but he lived with his wife, Cassandra and financially and emotionally supported Cassandra. He loved and cared about Cassandra like a siblings and visa versa. In fact Cassandra told Maria that she would always love Nic and visa versa and no one including the heroine could ever change that nor come between them.
They all lived together. Cassandra too had a lover, Nic's second in command and Cassandra's sometimes bodyguard, who lived with them as well. Cassandra will be the heroine in the next story and I will not be reading that book. I don't like Cassandra even though I feel sorry for her basically being a prisoner. (Cassandra and Maria are rarely allowed to leave house and never alone.)
Cassandra has been a prisoner all of her life, first with her parents and then with Nic, and had very little access to other people. She was spoiled, getting everything that she wants except her freedom. As a result she acts like a bratty teenager lacking in social skills, always wanting her own way not matter the cost to anyone else even though she is almost 40 years old. Also I cannot respect Cassandra's lover, the future hero, in that he let the woman he supposedly love live with and be financially supported by another man and stay married to him. He is not possessive nor anyone that I can like.
Not only is Nic married to Cassandra but he seems in no hurry to change that. In fact he proposed to Maria but then he told her that he couldn't marry her. Maria was happy with that. Totally sad.
I had other problems with Nic as well. He killed an innocent man because the man was not bright and was tricked into letting Maria and Cassandra leave the house (with him guarding them) because they wanted to shop for a few hours. Not only did Nic kill the innocent man but tortured him prior to killing him and did both of these things in front of Maria. While Maria was initially distressed not too much after that she told Nic how much she loved him and then had smex with him. Yes, she told Nic she loved him first, around 50% into the story while he only said it at the end.
I didn't believe that Nic was as obsessed nor infatuated with Maria as she was with him. Maria kept thinking and talking about how hot Nic was, he was gorgeous. By contrast Nic thought that he "had" women much more beautiful than Maria. (Cassandra was repeatedly described as totally gorgeous, a woman who looked like a model and who was as beautiful as Helen of Troy.) In fact Nic thought that while Maria was beautiful now with her hourglass figure, eventually Maria's looks would fade and she would be well rounded like her mother, who she is a carbon copy of. Wow, how romantic. Love is totally not blind in his case like it is in hers.
The reason that I rated the story 3 stars as opposed to 1 star is for two reasons. First, while Nic was married to OW Nic never had smex with OW after meeting Maria. In his own way he was faithful to her. Second Maria enjoyed having smex with OM prior to meeting Nic. I mentally cheered when I read that she had a good smex life with one of her former lovers, that she came while doing it unlike most of her girlfriends. I loved too how in the beginning when Maria was asleep and Nic woke her up by giving her oral pleasure that she called out her former lover's name. She thought it was her former lover because she had not had smex with Nic and that point. I loved it because it resulted in a jealous display, again my kryptonite.
