Burning Gold is the second book of Mallory Crowe's new paranormal series "The Bewitching Hour" and it is really good!
We pick up about 3 months after the end of the first book "The Bewitching Hour" Sam is now working for and being trained by her grandmother Claudia. While Derek is looking into the fire that happened several years ago on the Harris's property that killed several people and was covered up by Sam's mom. Sam and her new partner/body guard Bastian are looking into a series of fires that are targeting witches when she runs into Derek who is investing the casualties from the latest fire. Sam wants Derek's help because she is new at investing, not sure if she doing it right and she misses him terribly, but she does warns him that Claudia will not be happy when she finds out he is working with them on the same case but he is not backing down. Especially when the next fire causes the dead of two people. Soon they find out that the fires are related to the previous serial killer case they worked on together. The darkness has affected another and now that person is taking out his anger on the witches by going on a literal witch hunt. When Sam gets possessed by the darkness, Claudia has to work with Derek to save her before it's too late.
This is a great book that I could not read fast enough. It grabbed a hold of me at the start and did not let go!
I highly recommend this book, series, and author! You won't be disappointed.
I volunteered to read a pre-release copy for my honest opinion. I likes it so much I bought a copy and I can't wait for the next one!
So if you really want to know what is happening with Derek and Sam, you will have to either buy the paperback or the ebook you choose, you really won't be disappointed.
Told from several third person points of view BURNING GOLD continues to follow the search for the truth. In the previous installment Derek and Samantha uncovered the who behind a series of killings but the why and the person in charge has never been revealed. BURNING GOLD focuses on the hunt for an arsonist who is targeting members of the witch community, and possible connections to the people in charge. What ensues is the rekindling romance and relationship between Samantha and Derek as they work together in search of the person responsible for so much destruction, and the growing darkness within.
BURNING GOLD is a story of mystery and suspense; family and control; magic and power. Derek is a human caught up in the world of the supernatural but sometimes even he is out of his element when it comes to the darkness that is slowly seeping into his life. His affection and need for Samantha Harris is compounded or obstructed by the ‘family’, and Samantha’s inability to gain control over her own magic and power. The premise is suspenseful and revealing (I had already suspected who was the guilty party ); the romance begins to take hold; the characters are animated and lively. BURNING GOLD ends on a cliffhanger-you have been warned.
Burning Gold is the second book in Mallory Crowe’s witch serial. This is not a stand-alone. The first book, The Bewitching Hour, must be read before reading this book.
This book starts where The Bewitching Hour left off. Even though we found out in the last book who was committing the murders, we are very aware that the murderer was not working alone.
Samantha and Derek have ended their relationship. Samantha’s grandmother has taken Sam under her wing by forcing her to work with her grandmother. We, also, have a new character, Claire, who was one of the murderer’s victims.
This book is, actually, more suspenseful than the first book. Again, the author confuses us with lots of twists, turns and surprises to keep our attention mesmerized in the plot of this book.
Fortunately, we are able to read this book immediately after the first book because the author released them on the same day.
Burning Gold is also a book with a cliffhanger ending. Fortunately, Ms. Crowe released the third book in this series, Long and Lost, at the same time as the other two. I am looking forward to reading it because I am intrigued by this title.
Again, I highly recommend this book.
