Lalei Kai-Ho’omalu one of the Ho'omalu cousins is a successful business woman taking care of the art gallery owned by her family that sell a lot of her cousins work. He family life is not such a success her mother who finds status more important than economy refuses to change her lifestyle after the death of Lalei's father and now she is in financial trouble. Mom has a plan to keep her status and solve her money issues, she just needs Lalei to agree to marry the man she has picked out, to bad Lalei can't stand him.
Jack Nord played football with David and Daniel Ho'omalu(Lalei's cousins), He has come to Hawaii for Daniel's wedding. He has met Lalei in passing at other family events but it isn't until they are together at the wedding that things start to heat up. Jack has always thought Lalei was rather prissy so when she puts the moves on him it is rather a surprise.
Through the series the bad guys have been part of a drug cartel family and now it is a company that is funded by the drug money that is the problem. Lalei finds that she too has gifts from Pele when trouble starts.
This is a fun twist on mythology and the paranormal by using Hawaiian legends as the basis for the supernatural powers in this family. The story is extremely well crafted and has some pretty tense and suspenseful moments. The love scenes as hot as the lava coming up from Kilauea. This book is great but is my least favorite of the series, the paranormal element in this one just seemed to take a HUGE backseat in this story and it wasn't as integrated into the story as in the others. That being the case I still loved this book and would recommend the entire series.
Cousin Lalei Kai-Ho'omalu has come to Nawea for Daniel and Claire's (Rolling in the Deep, Hawaiian Heroes #2) wedding. She has always felt like the outsider in the closely knit family. Her mother is a socialite widow whose financial stability has suffered in these rough times and she wants to Lalei to marry well so she can continue to live the she has become accustomed to it doesn't really matter what Lalei wants. Lalei has been the good daughter up to now but the man her mother wants her to marry makes her skin crawl.
California Realtor Jack Nord played football with David, Daniel, and Malu and has come for the wedding. He has seen Lalei at other Ho'omalu functions and thought she was the most beautiful woman he has ever seen, also a bit stuck up. When Lalei offers no strings sex he isn't about to turn her down even though she is just using him to get rid of the guy her mother wants her to marry.
While visiting Jack and Lalei learn that developers are trying to carve up Ho'omalu lands for a new resort and using unscrupulous means to do so. So angered by this Lalei comes into her powers as a guardian and uses them to delay the developers while the rest of the family attempts to get an injunction against the developers. Jack finds himself falling for the Hawaiian warrior woman hidden inside Lalei. But is he going to be able to handle a woman who can throw lightning?
I adore this unique series. Lots of hunky Hawaiian men, beautiful wahines, and exotic scenery. This steamy installment has a lot going on not the least of which is Lalei growing into her skin as a person and a guardian. I look forward to future Hawaiian Heroes.
Ms. Cade knows how to write the legends of the Hawaiian Isles and put just the right amount of twist for the modern world that you can't help but become one with these Warriors that are out to protect these beautiful islands from destruction. This time its Lalei Kai-Ho'omalu's turn to take the reins.
I have to say I really liked the dynamic between Jack and Lalei. He had his issues that he felt he wasn't good enough for someone like her and she wanted to be accepted. They fit perfectly together even if it took a lot for them to get to that point.
I didn't think it was possible for there to be more creative ways to have sex but apparently I can be proven wrong and Cathryn Cade is very good at knowing how to come up with the best scenes in her books. Hats off to you my dear.
From fighting to keep real estate developers off their mountain, to fires, thunderstorms and lightning I love how each of these books has brought something new and this one was just as thrilling, fun and sexy!
