He goes further than just a flashy beginning. Immediately following that, he delves into the main story, offering a descriptive narrative that gives the reader an immersive feeling. You really relate to the main character, Toby, as he through his ordeals. His other characters jump off the page as well, giving an all-around expansive story.
I’ll admit, in the beginning, I did experience a little bit of confusion while trying to understand the major plot of the story. I think that it pretty normal when delving into a sci fi thriller like this. It takes a certain level of suspension of disbelief. That’s what I felt when getting into the whole Mindflyer concept. But once I did, it was smooth sailing through the rest of the book and became addicted to the shadowy government program with sinister intent.
This was an enjoyable read. I recommend this book to any thriller or sci fi fans out there. They will surely get something out of this book. It’s a story that is too good to pass up. I hope to read more by Eugene Knight in the near future.
The premise of the book is frightening, proposing that there is a group of individuals specifically trained to enter your dreams and manipulate your thoughts. The author cleverly draws parallels to mad scientist themes, government conspiracies, and true science gone wrong. He also hits home to horrors that anyone could go through – kidnapped children and home invasions. The author’s mixture of all of these themes made for a great story that you really couldn’t put down. I felt that quite a few of the scenarios and conversations were incredibly well written, and all of the different themes and storylines flowing between chapters were very easy to follow. As a speed reader, that is something I struggle with often – there are books where I might skip a line and then be completely lost, but this author did a great job of spending just enough time on each story line and including enough clues in others to make sure you knew what was happening. Loved it and I would truly read this author’s work again.
This is once again a great novel by Eugene Knight. I loved In Between Dreams and I absolutely loved Burning Through Their Eyes. I love the character development of Toby; I loved how he was so relaxed and affectionate and I enjoyed his determination to get his child back. The story is thrilling, captivating and very interesting. You will not want to put the novel down because you will want to know how this ends. And, most importantly, you will want to know what Toby does, you will be rooting for him, you will be cheering him on and you will feel connected to him in his struggle to find himself and be the protector that he wants to be. It is brilliant! I am a huge fan of Eugene Knight's writing style and Toby! I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars because it deserves so much more.
