Review
The first poem I read by Cathy Warner was clear evidence that one day she would be know by many as a gifted poet. That day has come. Her poetry will take you on an adventure of faith that passes through joy, surprise, sorrow, laughter, birth, memory, and more. As in life the path is unpredictable and your soul will be deeply nourished. --Bishop Beverly J. Shamana, author of Seeing in the Dark
Life finds words in Cathy Warner's book of poetry, Burnt Offerings. With poignant depth, Warner calls every sense - sight, touch, taste, sound, smell - to bear witness to the mystery and wonder of a life lived through attentiveness to what really matters. Here, in her poems, faith unfolds against all odds and beyond human boundaries. This collection is for anyone who hopes. --Pamela C. Hawkins, Upper Room author and United Methodist pastor living in Nashville
"I used to believe a God who created woman from a rib was laughable," Cathy Warner writes in her poetry collection, Burnt Offerings. "I believe now that the slat between our ribs is the perfect place to carry our faith." Such appropriate words from someone whose own writings have a way of lodging in my heart and mind for extended periods. Readers of Burnt Offeringswill likewise find Warner's words teleporting from the page to their inner sanctums without invasive surgical maneuvers. --Chad Thomas Johnston, author of Nightmarriage
From the Author
Although my poetry rises out of my experience with the Christian tradition, and many of the poems address faith and the Christian story directly, an equal number consider universal themes of life.
My life is overflowing with gifts. I pray that some of them will spill out in the world through Burnt Offerings.
