Product Description
A Creature to Freeze Your Blood! A Story to Chill Your Soul!
Through a series of chilling coincidences, the newly-elected director of a cemetery (Richard Boone) begins to believe that he can cause the deaths of living owners of burial plots by merely changing the push-pin color from white (living) to black (dead) on a large wall map of the cemetery. This chilling tale is co-produced and director by cult filmmaker, and father to Empire/Full Moon founder Charles, Albert Band (Draculas Dog, Ghoulies II).

There is no gore in this flick but to those who like their horror with a twist, or better yet lovers of Twilight Zone: The Complete Definitive Collection , to you I say (In my best Zelda Rubenstein voice), come to the light, all are welcome.
Oh ya, the plot. It's simple enough. Robert Kraft, a successful man, president of a retail store, and on a committee responsible for a local cemetery his family has ties too. Each year the committee appoints a new director to handle the cemetery and this year it's Bobby's turn. Bob stops by to let the caretaker know that It's time for him to retire with full pension after 40 years of dedicated service. The caretaker shows Bobby around and too the large map of the cemetery that keeps track of all the plots with it's vast grids of squares. Each square or plot with a black pin in it represents a grave that has been filled by someone who has deceased. Each square with a white pin is for those who have made future arrangements for their burials. One problem, Bob accidentally puts two black pins in a young, very much alive, just married couple instead of white, and soon after they both die! After hearing the news Bob gets an eerie feeling that it's more than a coincidence and randomly takes out a white pin on the map hanging on the wall and replaces it with a black one, guess what, they die too. It seems whatever reserved plot that Bob sticks a black pin in someone dies. Picture the horror of scientist Andre Delambre from The Fly Collection (The Fly [1958] / Return Of The Fly / The Curse Of The Fly) who tampered with nature, but here it is nature that tampered with Bob.
The question is; What happens if Bob replaces the black pins of the deceased with white ones?! DUH! DUH! DUH!
THE SELLER: INETVIDEO
The dvd is no longer available, so I found a seller on Amazon offering it brand new for only $4.68. My experience with this is usually a saran wrapped dvd that looks like it's been burnt, so I was leary but I figured It's five bucks. I was shocked to find it had all three security tags on (which I kind of hate, but it appeared to be new), the dvd was immaculate, as a collector of dvds I hate it when one shows up banged up. Still hesitant, thinking this seller has an in with security tags, I popped to the movie in expecting to find a burned version and to my surprise watched a pristine black and white Midnite Movies quality dvd.
This is a (from my limited experience) great seller here on Amazon and someone that deserves their high rating and one I will use again. Thanks INETVIDEO.
This movie has been previously released as part of the MGM Midnite Movies collection.
BLU-RAY and EXTRA'S: The picture is excellent. That's all I can really say. Keep in mind the movie is in black and white. You don't get anything in the way of extra's, just subtitles.
PLOT: Robert Kraft (Richard Boone) ends up with the duties of director of a cemetery. He doesn't want the job but is forced to take it. His family owns a large department store and he works for them. The current caretaker, who is being pushed out, explains Kraft's duties to him. He shows him a map of the cemetery on the wall. Any plot that has a black pin means that somebody has died and has been buried there. Any plots with a white pin is owned by the somebody living. Kraft accidentally puts a black pin in a plot of land owned by somebody living. That person dies immediately afterward. This disturbs Kraft and makes him feel responsible. His friends and family insist he did nothing wrong and they force him to do the same thing again. The results are the same. Kraft begins to have a mental breakdown after he places more black pins in plots of land owned by the living with the same results. Is Robert Kraft causing these people to die or is there another explanation?
COMMENTS: I enjoyed this movie and if you are a fan of 'The Twilight Zone' then you will probably like this. That might be a reach but to me for most of the movie it felt like an episode from that series though obviously movie length. Though the somewhat weak and unrealistic ending is not a typical 'Twilight Zone' like ending.
Though Richard Boone had a long career I think of him as the wealthy industrialist in the cult movie, 'The Last Dinosaur.'
RECOMMENDATIONS: I'm giving this movie 4 stars for the good plot and the excellent print. It's a bit pricey for just one old obscure black and white horror movie but I enjoyed it, thus the 4 stars. The extra's are pretty much non-existant and it is pricey so it won't be for everyone.

The film itself is eerie, punchy and doesn't hang about. We get to the nub of the problem pretty sharpish, Boone may or may not be putting black pins on a cemetery board where white pins would be preferable. Over the course of the relatively short film, clocking in under 80mins, Boone deteriorates due to his ethical sensibilities. The other key player is under some age make-up and a scottish'ish accent, and of course there is the love interest who gets less of his time as the weird atmosphere & sense of dread prevails.
Although cheap, and Boone has limited expressiveness & the acting is variable, but the camera trickery for dream sequences, the deft orchestral score banging in, this does it's job efficiently & effectively. Some find the tricksy ending odd, but at least it is inventive and if you think about it, still ambiguous. A noirish piece of Twilight Zone flavoured odd, that doesn't out stay it's welcome. Worthy entertainment.
